I had set on ASRock Z77 extreme4 for my build. but I dont like it's shorter than a true ATX board and the bad rumors (ok thats to be expected on any forum) is the ASUS a better built board? and I am curious to know what the Asus equivalent would be. probably wont be using X fire on this build, just looking for something build like a NY taxi ie the Sabertooth but its pricy but could be persuaded . It's to last a good 5 years. I would also consider Gigabyte too if they are any good.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't be too worried about the Extreme4. Asrock's been getting good reviews lately; I don't know about any bad rumors concerning them. The equivalent Asus board would probably be the P8Z77-V (same number of SATA 6 Gb/s slots), which is $65 more expensive on Newegg. I think pretty much any board should last you 5 years these days.

Overclocking working great, good temps, quad channel memory and SLI working great.

ASRock started out as Asus' "budget" line. AFAIK they got spun off a few years ago, and are (mostly?) an independent company now.

I generally prefer Asus, as I've had very good luck with them over the years; but ASRock has replaced MSI as my go-to brand for budget builds.

ASRock also tends to support older platforms longer than the other big name vendors, e.g. they were the vendor of choice if you needed a Socket AM2+ board to repair an old system after other vendors had stopped selling AM2+ boards. They've also released oddball "hybrid" boards that support multiple memory generations (e.g. DDR/DDR2, or DDR2/DDR3).

I've had no issues with mine. Well, the first one I had was killed by faulty RAM sticks, but the replacement has been working quite well.

I've had 4 ASRock motherboards going as far back as Socket 754 (Athlon 64 2800+) all the way up to two recent releases, one being a Socket 1156 (Core i5-750) and Socket 1155 (Core i5-2500K). I've also built systems that were socket 1155 (Core i5-3570K) and a Socket 1150 (Core i5-4570K) that were Asus and Gigabyte, respectively. My opinion? Asus and ASRock are largely similar experiences... except you get more features for your money with the ASRock. Both the Asus and ASRock were significantly better than the Gigabyte board (the Gigabyte board has been annoying on multiple levels, the UEFI is terribly lacking in options like fan control and this board has had a string of weird USB issues). Highly recommend ASRock, my next motherboard is almost certainly going to come from them.

My ol Gigabyte with Athlon 64 2800+ gave up the ghost after I fudged the BIOS last month, but it did run X-Plane 10 at a push. So anything I get should whip it ass.
I may have another Q b4 the end of the week, then I'm off to buy it, "it" being the big Q.

Happy owner of an AsRock Z77 Pro4-M here. Followed AsRock closely through Sandy generation and read many reviews of multiple IVB AsRock mobos before purchasing. Like others have said, I wouldn't worry about it.

Yep I have not heard anything worse then anything said about ASUS motherboards since sandy bridge.

ASrock has taken the place of DFI motherboards for enthusiast's in my eyes. With the exception of getting more for your money. Plus i have never been fond of Asus Blue MB's. There sabertooth and ROG boards look a lot nicer. But ascetics should not matter to most but if you can get a Asrock board with the same features for less $ or more features for the same $. The choice is completely your's.
