Hello all,

A few days ago my old P67 mobo died (beta bios instalation went wrong) so I went to the local store to see if they could do something to recover it. They said they can't give support to bricked mobos and that I should talk directly to MSI to resolve the issue.

I decided to buy a new board that doesn't break the bank, since I have a Ivy Bridge CPU it looked like a good thing to buy a Z77 board with all the goodies that P67 doesn't have.

I've settled with a Asus P8z77 V LK, it was advised in one of the latest system builder setups here in Tech Report. It looks like a good balance between price and specs. Any advice on this particular board?

I went through a period of buying Asus boards because they had the only decent UEFI BIOS.

That is no longer true, and Gigabyte boards often give you similar features to Asus at a notably lower price. I based the last 50-odd workstations on Z77 Gigabyte GA-Z77-DS3H boards, no problems with them so far. I haven't built the first eight Haswells yet, but I was pleased enough with the DS3H that I picked Gigabyte boards instead of Asus again.

A lot of people rave about ASRock being cheaper/better than budget Asus offerings too. I haven't really had much experience with motherboards outside of Asus/MSI/Gigabyte though

I have a entry level Gigabyte board in another pc, and the UEFI is also quite decent. My MSI board had 3 years old and it was full of stuff but gave me to much trouble. Price isn't my concern now, I just need something powerful and trouble free.

I ordered a expensive one, P8Z77-V, I guess it was a good choice.

The thing is how much did you pay for your Lk board ???
I was going to sport a ASUS i. My current 2600k rig but i went with a gigabyte cp67-ud4 with the plan old bios but it came with 2 bios chips is case you flubbed a update it could call back onto the old one plus it was almost 50$ cheaper then the ASUS model that was the equivalent of my dual biosed gigabyte board My board came with the F2 or F3 bios a d would do the cold boot loop all the way up to the latest F8 bios i am running now.... I think my dual bios saved my butt one time for sure. I have to say i have yet to use a UEFI bios since all my rigs have a Sandy bridge CPU in them . Gigabyte p67 gaming rig goi. On 3 years old had a lovely 2600k. Both of my Dell hd Zino's were happily replaced by 2 gateway refurbished units from microcenter for a heck of a lot cheaper even with the graphics card upgrades.....a he 6570 LProfile ASUS to go with the i3 2120 making that 229$ rig cost 274.99 since the card sent me back another 45$ the other gateway refurbished had a i3 2125 so its the as e ship as the 2120 with better HD3000 graphics. But that didnt matter since i spent 85$ on a hd 7750 a non powere version that pulled a whole 43 watts. The crazy thing is i hit the silicone lottery on they chip that over locks like a dual 8 pim monster

I was going to pay 125€ for the LK but I thought a bit more and I'm going to give 175€ for the V
