Identifing an adapter

Mon Sep 30, 2013 1:24 pm

My lab recently inherited an old piece of equipment. In the process of moving it, the pin on an adapter was bent. I am trying to identify the adapter to order a replacement, but I seem to be having issues. All I can figure out is that it looks to be some kind of a 50 pin female to 50 pin male adapter. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The side shown in the picture looks like one side of it.

or this http://www.ebay.com/itm/SCSI-2-HPDB50-Female-Female-50-Pin-Gender-Changer-Adapter-CablesOnline-GC-015-/271210863030

in this case a picture is worth a thousand words... though 50 pin sounds like one of the many flavours of scsi (quick check LVD scsi is 50 pin)
also Vendors like HP used to do their own proprietory versions all the time in the old days (likely still do)

edit: just noticed this was flipped gender... but I think it should give you the right idea.
edit2: corrected link to correct genders

Quite common adapter for older imaging devices as scanners as well as tape drivers or any other bandwidth hungry application. Exsternak CD-ROM burners also comes to mind.

Well, it is for a type of scanner, so that makes sense. And the ebay link shows me more infor to search by. Now I just have to find something similar at a vender we are authorized to purchase from. Thank you for all the help.

sorry about the ebay link but they are convenient for finding items like these.

I just looked and I had disposed of one of these a couple weeks ago.

terms I used to search were "50 pin LVD SCSI to Centronics"

If you have access to a pair of fine point needle nosed pliers and a knife, you can probably straighten the pin out. Be gentle and it is unlikely to break. Even if it does, you aren't any worse off. If you do buy, you might have easier luck finding it as a cable, instead of just the adapter.

Oh... be prepared for sticker shock if you find one at an "approved vendor".

Yep, old school SCSI 50-pin connector, used in scanners, CDROM's, and some Mac devices, like printers.

approved vendor? just buy it off of ebay out of your own pocket for $5 bucks and then you can be the hero! the time you will save will be worth it. not to mention that ebay has become one of the go-to standards for obscure computer parts. they have things that cannot be found elsewhere for a reasonable amount.

I might go the cable route, as all of the adapters at Male to Male and I need Male to Female. We almost did the ebay part until we found the genders were wrong.

That might still work, depending on what state he lives in.

On second review, probably not the best way to phrase that.
