Just happened to notice that the client was using only 7 cores out of the available 8. Apparently the latest Linux SMP client leaves one core unused by default. If you have no need to keep one core free, you may want to explicitly use the "--cpus=" option when launching the client to ensure you are fully utilizing all available cores.
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

So it is not -smp x anymore? Good to know.

That might still work too (not sure); but I can confirm that --cpus=8 fixed it for me.

Also resurrected my monitoring page so I can keep tabs on my folding boxen remotely: http://justbrewit.net/folding/nodestat.html

Hopefully adding another FX-8320 this weekend.

Frankie and company were around far longer than that young upstart Hulk, 1962 was the first year the Hulk was seen published in a comic book. Here is something from the same year you might like.

Frankie's point record from last Thursday (686,694) is about to fall. Seeing what's in the pipeline now plus what my GPU slot is going to bring in (in just under 2 hours from this writing), we will have a new day record approaching 700,000.

If today's prior trend holds, we'll be over that and I won't have to get out and pedal! :P

Whoohoo!

And after today's haul is tallied, what Frankie has accumulated over the past week or so will be more than the month's total from last year. More participation, or the inflation/devaluation of points? :o

Probably a bit of both? Hard to say.

According to the overtake list, by the end of the month Frankie will have surpassed my point total. I haven't decided yet whether to flip my systems back to my own name at the end of the month or shut the clients down. Probably I'll keep one of them running for the winter; I think what I'd like to do is stash a diskless node in the crawlspace, where it will help heat the family room above.

The record did not seem to fall, and we still have one more day to go to break last year's haul.

It is probably attribute to the fact that GPU client is mature and there are more users folding with GPGPUs. Nvidia units on average are faster, but newer AMD units are just about as good.

FYI, my modest 660Ti at stock still manages to single-handlely snag ~30K PPD versus ~13K PPD that would normally come from my [email protected] when it is fully loaded w/o GPU client loaded.

You're right FF, we really got dinged on that last checkpoint. My GPU did bring it home but not quite to the front door; only a couple thousand short of the day record. :( Maybe I should have gotten out and pedaled after all! :P

Awww well, tomorrow (today) is a new day!

As for the "point values vs. greater participation" question, it is to me greater participation that is making the difference. Without a doubt, and here's why(*):

Based on my historical point values for returning an x17 WU in about 7 hours (for approximately 27k-28k), we would have to finish only 20 to 30 x17's per day (at that speed) to make our rough daily average of 650,000 points. Instead, it is requiring us to finish 60 to 70 work units per day to make that number of points. So I think the difference this year is increased participation, hands down. And THAT is how big projects usually get done anyway; by participation from a lot of "Average Joe" types and not by Superman!

(*) Using a tried and truly approximate methodology called "Cocktail Napkin Math" (Napkin optional. Math optional.) It's how I roll. :P

P.S. I'm not calling anybody average. You are all exceptional!
P.P.S I'm not calling myself or my rig "Superman". I am merely average, so very lucky to currently have the wind at my back!

I would think without all those 8-core AMD CPUs and x17 WUs, we would not be matching last year's totals in that short order. So all the help, as usual, is much appreciated. This is really making Frankie scary! :)

Well it sure would be interesting if there was a way to do a "deep dive" into the metrics, but aside from asking people to preserve their logs (which would be a time-consuming hassle), I don't know of any way to gain additional insight into the work unit and point-total internals.

So I am content to just enjoy the ride. The scary, scary ride! :D

There appears to have been an issue with the "mothership" at Stanford. I noticed that the 9 PM statistics showed zero points. Not just for Frankie, either; it looks like nobody in all of Team TR generated any points during that window.

I also seemed to be having other issues not related to folding, so just to be conservative I rebooted my system and also recycled my DSL and router. For about 20 minutes my folding units wouldn't start; the local web client kept timing out. Finally, it took and seems to be running now. Weird.

There have been some problems with all of their servers and their website, they were very slow or unreachable for a few hours.

I get the same issues a couple times a week for the past month or so. Something has been messed up on their end since the last time they did server maintenance. Its nothing to wake up in the morning and find my F@H client sitting there saying "Ready" waiting to get a new WU to run.

"Waiting for response from folding.stanford.edu" followed by a timeout and no connection. My folding machine has been offline all day. :(

Must be only certain servers affected. One of my 8-core boxes just grabbed a new WU about 30 minutes ago.

Have you tried a reboot? That seems to fix the issue for me. Well, until it gets stuck again requiring another reboot. It's like F@H gets hung up on something and won't talk to the servers.

It's not a problem downloading a Work Unit; it's a problem getting my client connected, and I have already rebooted a couple times.

I still have two checkpoints to be resumed!

EDIT: Finally, after nearly the whole day, I got my client reconnected and have resumed my two checkpoints. Sheesh, that's gonna hurt my production for today.
