New RSTe drivers bring TRIM to RAID1/0 for X79!

Sat Oct 05, 2013 5:51 pm

Yes, my fellow X79 friends, the day is finally upon us. As of yesterday, Intel released new RSTe drivers that bring TRIM to RAID 0/1 SSD configs (let Win 7/8 TRIM commands pass through the Intel C600 chipset storage controller)! Best of all, no OROM update (and accompanying BIOS flashes) required! At least I didn't for my ASRock X79.

I verified with this TRIM check tool. With the old RSTe drivers, the tool indicated that TRIM was not working on my RAID 0 array. After installing the new drivers and a reboot, it indicated that it was.

As they say, better late than never... Anyway, I bet the 3 other people that use SSD RAID on X79 that read TR will be interested in this.

Thanks to this forum post for the heads up.

X79 and two SSDs here, but I don't do RAID.

Still, glad to see they finally validated this for the Xeon platform.

Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for the links!
I had two Intel 80g ssd in raid 0. No trim and restores with Acronis were weird.
Not impossible but Acronis is not user friendly. Might try Macrium Reflect next time.
I changed to a Samsung 830 256g no Raid.
I might try it again.

Good show- but for some reason, I'd thought that they'd had this figured out already. Not that I'm terribly interested in X79, as much as I'm interested in Ivy-E.

Make that 4 possible users. Looks like Intel had removed it. Are you experiencing any issue? Cheers.

Seems to be up again. Looks like they took down 3.8.0.1108 and replaced it with 3.8.0.1111? From the notes, the only difference between the two may be support for Win 8.1 and Server 2012 R2.

Note: Package Version = 3.8.0.1111 adds support for Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows 8.1.

I've had no problems with it over the last 10 days.
