I like the container ship shots. You have some good ones there.

To toss a small rock in the pond this is a great site for some amazing photographs:

Excellent shots. Its too bad there isn't a good 70-200, 70-300 option. Even a slow lens at this range will be able to give you a bit more sharpness not as stopped down. Actually, if you could swing the Tamron 70-300USD, I think it would be an awesome option.

After post-processing and reduction to postage-stamp resolutions for forum use, it's pretty hard to tell DSLRs apart- and in bright conditions, the 7D's files do lend themselves well to rigorous post processing. Now, as for the 7D's performance when pushed into lower light... I'll keep my 6D, thanks :)

There is a great 70-200 option, it's just $2500. The the two football shots are stopped down because I had been taking pictures of the girls in deep shadow and had the ISO raised up good bit. I was waiting on them to get read for half time and had pointed the camera out at the field and didn't bother to change the settings. However I think I will be lookin at the 24-70 f2.8 first. An f3.5-5.6 lense just isn't cutting it for indoor shooting.

That 28-135 does do alright stopped down- it's an awkward focal length for crop, what with such a narrow wide-end, but it does hold the aperture pretty wide for a zoom as you zoom in, which probably helps out the 7D's amazing AF system a bit, more than the 18-135 would. Almost wish they'd update it as an FF kit zoom; it'd be quite nice, actually, if they made an STM version for an FF camera with Dual-Pixel AF.

Just a friendly reminder, guys - the crappy phpBB software doesn't handle oversized images properly (it cuts them off) so if you wanna link your full-sized samples, do it in this format:

This way you'll get clickable small thumbnail (not cut by phpBB) leading to fullsized image  Just like in the post by SecretSquirrel.

Couple of thoughts. The older but still good Tamron 70-200 Di is out there (non-USD). Its running between $400 and $600. AF may not be blazing fast, but its pretty fast and very accurate. Would definitely be an upgrade to the super-zoom and would be excellent indoors or out.

Also, might want to consider a 28-7x/2.8. There are quite a few more options, but are far less money than the 24-70's. If you want a solid FF equivalent, a 17-50/2.8 might be a great option.

Had a bit of fun tonight. I like what happened with the streetlight at a 10 second exposure. I just wish it were a better scene. And you can tell I left Steadyshot on. Bummer. But, still like the light. I'll play with it a bit, maybe in the snow and see what happens and do it right.

However, I am liking where the moon is right now.

Got a new lens. A Leica Elmar 135 4 and a Metabones adapter. Very sweet lens, I have only taken a few but even my total screw ups are creamy sweet total screw ups:

That depends on the width of your monitor. I can see the whole thing with a 2560-pixel wide monitor.

Had a bit of fun with some long exposures on a night with some low clouds.

If I could get a lens that would have a bit less flare/ghosting issues, I would absolutely love this shot.

If you're using a filter- take it off. If not, well... maybe try a CP?

My 70-300 non-L is useless with filters, at least any I'd be willing to pay for to put on a lens I got for $350 refurbished. Pointed into any real source of light, filters cause mad flaring, which disappears once removed. Guy at the camera shop didn't want to believe me.

Circular polarizers are something I'm looking hard at- I do have some cheap ones in 58mm, my most common filter thread size (24mm/50mm/85mm/70-300mm), but my standard zoom is 77mm, and my macro lens is 67mm. I could get by with two using a step-down ring for the macro, but man, decent ones are so expensive.

I had thought of a CP or even an ND filter. But I didn't have one for in a 62mm thread size with me. But yeah, I need something.

I'm wondering if a CP wouldn't 'straighten out' the light sources and prevent some of the ghosting and coma. Since the camera is anchored for long exposures, the lost fraction of an f-stop shouldn't be an issue.

The only problem I see is if the CP filter behaves like the UV/protection filters I tried for my 70-300- that'd be worse than what you're seeing now, I think.

My contribution to fall colors. Haven't had much of a chance to get out this fall, especially with the parks being closed, and more home football games than usual.

The framing on that shot is pretty odd, but I was sitting on the Lawn with some friends, and didn't really want to walk around. At the time, my 55mm/1.8 Pentax was living on the camera, but I'm probably switching to the 50mm/3.5 Zenitar pancake, so that my camera is easier to carry.
Also, don't look at the photo anything above medium size. My focus mirror is out of place, so MF is a bit difficult at the moment, and it's pretty evident zoomed in on this shot. Though I also have shaky hands, which really isn't doing me any favors.

I've really got to get out and see some fall colors in Texas. Been a bit busy lately, but I did get with B&H to get a decent deal on the EOS-M system while they're on fire-sale to get a second/backup body, to get the lenses and flash, and the Canon adapter to use my other eight EF lenses with it. Well, seven, not much use for the 14/2.8 on a crop :).

JAE- I'll let you know what I think about the EOS-M. I'm excited for what Canon will be able to do with the system, and B&H has some decent 'bundle' in-cart discounts when you get the kit with the zoom and flash, and then add the 22/2 and the EF->EF-M adapter.

I'm also looking forward to the 'movie servo AF' function, lacking as it is behind the 70D's DPAF capability (or a Sony SLT's capability) which my current 6D and previous 60D lack completely. I'm not expecting perfection, but being able to have the camera make small adjustments without having to push a button and getting the camera's hunting on video sure would be nice.

I picked up the EOS Rebel SL1 for my father because he really needs the viewfinder (which the EOS-M lacks).

Ah, that's right :). Sorry- I just remembered that you were picking up a smaller system. I wouldn't mind the SL1 (at all), it really is very nice for the size, but man the lenses make it look so big- outside of the 40/2.8 you mentioned, that is :).

That lens even makes my 6D look fairly unassuming!

I'm not sure video is the best way to show off the camera- not that it looks bad, at all, but there's very little chance that a YouTube video is going to come across as anything more than 'unremarkable'. We know Sony can do video, but it's the stills resolution that matters :).

From what I have seen, everything has been on pre-production firmware. A couple of dyxumers took some shots with wide angle Voigtlander rangefinder lenses. Some color shift, but no smearing lile the Leica. The vignetting should be fixable with very minor PP.

http://www.dyxum.com/dforum/wide-angle-rangefinder-lenses-on-a7r-a-first-test_topic102286.html

It makes things interesting, that's for sure. At this point, I am almost willing to move to the eount. If Sony doesn't come out with a ~$1500 FF body, I may have to.
