NIC throws error code 10 after Win8.1 upgrade

Postposted on Wed Oct 23, 2013 8:30 am

On a Lenovo H430 desktop, I upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1 and now the Realtek network controller is throwing an error code 10 in the windows device manager. I've tried downloading and installing the latest driver from both the realtek website and the Lenovo website, and I've tried installing the driver in compatibility mode. The light on the back doesn't come on when the network cable is plugged in, and the light on the router doesn't show anything either. Could it be a hardware issue?

Realtek looks to offer a diagnostic program. I'd check what that says first.
