Some of the shots I've seen have blown me away at 1:1- the resolution is definitely there!

It makes things interesting, that's for sure. At this point, I am almost willing to move to the eount. If Sony doesn't come out with a ~$1500 FF body, I may have to.

That's awful. There are so many crappy shots out there. ;)

Some random lenses including a 20/5.6 Russar:

Nicer photo set, the Zeiss 18mm F4 M does quite well.:

Had a chance to go on a sunrise hike on Monday. There are no actual pictures of the sunrise, as one member of our group got lost, so we spent about 20 minutes finding her. She took a wrong turn and ended up on the Appalachian Trail...

In other news, I'm thinking about trying a film camera, and may buy a Canon AE-1 Program soon, since they're cheap. If all else fails, I'll try to move my T1i electronics into that. Should be a fun project.

Ended up picking up a Pentax K1000 off of flea-bay for ~$20. Really solidly built. I'm excited to learn film with it. Ended up coming home and helping my parents prep for a move and came across a Ricoh XR-P, so I'm taking possession of that as well. All's well that ends well.

You can pick up a developer tank for very little. It's pretty easy to soup B&W and a small tub to hold the tank and chemicals at a steady temperature is all you need.

It's not well known but you can soup E6 slide film almost as easily. All you need is an aquarium heater with the stop broken off. Then you can set and hold 100F on all your stuff and make lovely slides. I say lovely because my first attempt was so much better than the local lab that I never went back.

Have fun, there's lots there. ;)

I haven't done much shooting that I can share, but I did drag the cameras out to a new cigar shop over the weekend:

For reference, I used my 6D with the SY14/2.8, 50/1.4, 85/1.8, 100L Macro for the title shot below, along with my EOS-M and Canadian-acquired EF-M 11-22 IS STM. That small WA zoom sells the EOS-M quite nicely :).

I am a crazy guy. Just bought an Zeiss FE 35mm 2.8 for a camera I won't even be able to buy for several months. Could not turn down a new lens for about 8% off and the possibility of no tax no duty. Our border is a total crap shoot.

Can E/FE-mount lenses be adapted to X-mount?

No. The sensor/flange distance is 17.7mm for the X cameras and 18mm for the E mount Sony cameras. No one has been able to build an adapter for that. This is an interesting page:

http://www.graphics.cornell.edu/~westin ... ister.html

I'll try in "shoot without lens" mode on the X-E1 if the configuration does not scare me, a bit of duct tape, who knows. ;) I may not be able to set any aperture with the FE 35mm without the camera to set the lens.

I'm doing this and I have to do whatever I can to put my a7R system together. Ideally I'll be able to keep my X-E1 which will mount my Leica lenses, as will the Sony. If not I'll sell it.

Gonna be a cheap Christmas around here.

Yeah, I'm guessing .3mm isn't enough space :). The FX -> EF adapters are about as thin as I've seen, but they do work great, given that people buy Zeiss glass in ZF.2 (FX) and then adapt it to ZE (EF), so they can get resolution and DR on a D800 or high-ISO capability on Canon, or when they only want to take one FF body.

Still, as a landscape guy, I can see the A7r serving you quite well- just hope it doesn't get so cold up there that you can't show off!

Visiting my grandparents and had a few chances to go out shooting. Just got the focus screen on my T1i fixed, so thankfully I can use MF lenses again and won't need to invest in anything new.

Probably most proud of this shot, as getting a UV filter for my 70-210mm was a great idea. It's eliminated most of the purple fringing, and exceedingly sharp. It's making me realize how bad the Canon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS is.

That's nice. He looks determined. Noise is not bad but I'd tidy that up for a shot I might print. You won't see it at any reasonable resolution, that's fer sure.

Got outside and went hiking in the "Polar Vortex" today. Wasn't too bad at around 25F all day. Only saw a few other people, and they were all significantly more bundled up than I was.

And I didn't realize it at the time, but the link in my last post only went to the photo, not the entire set, so here's the set URL. It's got Christmas lights, some star pictures, and quite a few more beach pictures. Most are from my T1i, though a few came off of my phone.

The T1i is pretty awful about noise. I was thinking about upgrading (camera was having some issues), but can't really make up my mind what I want to move to. FF would be nice, but really costly. 4/3 would be nice, just because it's a lot smaller, and the Olympus OMD E-M5 looks really nice. I was thinking about the Fuji EX-1, especially with the price drop, but read a few reviews mention slow auto-focus speed, and the lack of lenses is kind of annoying. Plus, with a rather small amount of subject matter, I really don't take as many pictures as I'd like, so an upgrade feels like wasted money at the moment.

Whining out of the way, I really like the Vivitar as a walk around lens. It was on my camera for almost all the shots that made it to Flickr, and when I got the subject properly in focus, it's incredibly sharp. The few shots I took with the 18-55 kit lens were mostly trying to capture landscapes, most of which could have been captured better with a panorama from my phone, though my fingers were a little chilly for that.

Any PP on this? At this size it looks incredibly sharp (those XF lenses are nice!) and the colors are excellent. I may have to take a closer look at the X systems if I replace my Canon anytime soon.

The XF 60mm I used is remarkably sharp everywhere and a pretty good 1:2 Macro lens.

It was on a tripod, I have only a couple of that one, usually I will take 6 or 8 of something like that. But yeah I did a few things. There is a little bit of highlight suppression, a tiny bit of shadow enhancement. A bit of a thing called Clarity in Capture One, which is really mid range contrast boost. I can do it in Photoshop but it's more work. I moved the white balance about 50 - 75 points more, or redder, not much, but I'm often not quite happy with the Fuji X-E1's choice. I do take it tricky places though. I never sharpen X-E1 pictures, well I did one and it worked out but apart from that, since April last year, that's it. This one:
http://carnagepro.com/photo/EX1/gstraightS.jpg
Is the only one. The camera with no AA filter just kills it's insanely sharp with good lenses. The Fuji lenses are very good.

Spent my holiday morning hiking with a few friends. Didn't get too many shots on digital, as I was trying to use up a roll of film, but I was pretty happy with most of them. A lot of soft water effect shots, as I stood around waiting for others to cross over the creek. I had waterproof hiking boots on. They... didn't.
Monopod + random trees lying around was surprisingly steady enough for longer exposures, though a neutral density filter would have been really handy, as even with the ISO dialed way down and my lens stopped down all the way, the slowest shutter speed I could manage was 1/4 of a second.

It's funny what you can capture with a telephoto lens that wasn't at all visible to the naked eye. Click to zoom in.
