Windows XP Services

Fri Nov 08, 2013 5:41 pm

Please tell me how to fix this problem: when I right click on a service and select "Properties", then left or right click on it, nothing happens. I do not see a thing.

I get the same results no matter which service I select.

Sorry, I did not know which forum to put this in , so I selected this one.

Hmm, running at user level I can at least see the properties but not change them. You might be running at Guest level. The other option is that you need to run a MalwareBytes full scan yesterday.
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

Thank you for your help!

Here's what I did: In run I typed, "cmd"and got "c:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe"box.
Then typed:"cd c:\" and received "c:\". Next typed:"code:select all" and got the following: "The file name, directory name. or volume label syntax is incorrect.".

Again, thanks,
Dede

What he meant was to type sc query into the CMD line. The select all code is for the forum to select it for you, so you can copy and paste.

Hi Captain Ned,

I also thank you for your help!

How do I change from "Guest"to the necessary title?

I would like to know the mode the services should run in, as well as the services that should be active and non-active.
I know that requires knowledge and lots of work!

I would appreciate it greatly if anyone could do it for me,so I can get services correct !!

Thanks in advance!

I did what you said to do: I got 10 "services". It indicated all were "running".

However, when I typed "code:select all", the response said: "The file name, directory name,or value label syntax is incorrect."

Thanks,
Dede

"code: select all" is just phpBB quoting text that is marked as "code", meaning using a fixed space font and ignore formatting tags like bold, italics, etc.

Now, exactly what you are trying to do, messing with system services?

Sorry, I am a novice and do not understand what you said about "code".

How do you place my comments in your email. I tried cut and paste, it does not work for me.

Regarding what I'm trying to do is in my first message. Please check it.

Hello,

Sorry that I am so late in answering you folks ! I have been out of town.

I sincerely appreciate all the help you have given me !

I did the "sc query" and received the following ( I could not copy and paste the information.) I saw more than I am typing. All of the following were shown and said : "running".
Advanced System Care 7
DcomLaunch
Dhcp
Even log
Lanmanworkstation
Live Udate Svc
Plug Play

Nothing more was displayed. Does that mean these are the only services running?

Any help will be greatly appreciated !

Please advise.
