Over/under on when I have to move it to R&P (excluding bid posts)?

Hair-trigger on this one, folks. Porch for now.
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

move it to R&P

EDIT BY MOD - Captain Ned - Sorry, not taking the bait. If you want to espouse those views, feel free to start a separate R&P thread.

really?

I am a History major, and happened to have lived during these years.
Telling half the story...glorifying only the points you happen to agree with...this is the worst kind of propaganda and selective historical revisionism.

If people want to celebrate his life, great.
But that is no reason to silence those who point out those who were on the receiving end of the struggle.
(Ironically in this case, other Black south Africans that didn't toe the ANC line)

Whether or not I agree with you, the Porch is not the appropriate place for that discussion. If you want the deeper discussion, head to R&P. As a 1985 college graduate I assure you I am aware of your issues. Simply the wrong venue.

well, this is the problem with Orwellian suppression of "wrong thought"
If you pick and choose what and where someone can debate ideas, you have already lost.

I understand the policy here, but there are generations coming out of our schools with no critical thinking ability.
They cannot debate, they cannot defend their ideals.
They are taught that there is no need; that unpleasant facts, inconsistency in history, failure to actual produce the intended results regardless of the good intentions...these can be easily dismissed by attacking the person...claiming racism, hate speech, or simply radical insanity.

It is very convenient, because it obviates the need to actually review the facts, history, or outcome of policy.

Not the right venue?

It seldom is until it is too late.

Done here. Try again in R&P. The discussion you want to have will not happen here in the Porch.
