Hdd activity bursts ,lag

Tue Dec 17, 2013 6:07 am

Hdd activity bursts from time to time.(2 min or so)
Has periods when hdd is 0 and time when peak.In this period has moments of lag and noise.
I've just instaled windows 8 and drivers. So no chance of virus or some malware.
On old w7 64 no problem.

In w7 on safemode has similar behavior to windows 8.I think is some driver form Intel.
Instaling drivers form Windows Update has similar issues.
Instaling old w7 driver stil no result.
But what? How to find out?

I have Asus k53s notebook with i5 2410M,hdd WDC 500gb ,4gb ram and Nvidia 540M.
Please help.

It's going to be hard to help without more information. It could be something like Windows doing indexing of files that causes the slow downs, but you probably need to do more research when the problem next occurs. Bring up Task Manager and see which processes are using up CPU time when the HD is busy. That would be the biggest clue as to the source of your slowdown.

I tried shutdown indexing all together from services. No result.
The problem occurs every time windows boots after initializing all. After few seconds of idle ,and its starts a click sound from hdd,and click every 2-3 min.
For instance when a open a pdf, visual studio ,opera any software working with hdd,

If you're hearing a click from your HDD then that's a sign it could be damaged. That could certainly explain the lag you're experiencing... You should start backing up whatever important data you have on that drive to another location, and plan to replace the drive.

I get all the crazy failures happening with my hardware and I suspect the HDD is dying too.

I agree. Other than some sort of fluke program trying to catalog information (indexing, etc), there's a good chance of imminent drive failure. Sounds like a good excuse to pick up a newer faster drive, or an SSD :P
