Magnetic tablets?

Fri Jan 10, 2014 6:51 am

I had no idea until I placed my tablet on a metal surface and wasn;t able to pick it up.... My Tegra note 7 is like a super magnet !

Sure enough, I can pickup up metal box, and that tablet stick to my fridge like mad.

Nice feature. But weird... To date, I haven't heard of any tablet yet that can be used as a fridge magnet ...

Anyone got any insight?

News to me also...thanks.

After a quick look it is for a optional magnetic cover that folds into a stand.

There are no other "magnetic" tablets like Tegra but there are aftermarket accessories for other tablets which can do the same (and more):

Most of the tablets use magnets to hold the optional covers on.

"Most of the tablets" do not have a row of very strong magnets on their back.

Good thing floppy disks and CRT monitors have gone the way of the dodo, or there would be a lot of really pissed off Tegra owners. Older tech really didn't like being near strong magnets.

I wonder how easy it is to accidentally erase your credit cards with one of these things?

The Nexus 7 HD had a warning sheet in the box, "keep away from bank and credit cards"

I think it may be their way to push NFC :D
