Z87-A memory slots

Sun Feb 02, 2014 10:57 am

New build with Asus Z87-A and Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2 x 4GB. Machine will not post with any configuration but one stick in the B2 DIMM. Individually both sticks test out OK with Memtest. This is a motherboard problem, right?

All BIOS/UEFI settings at factory stock?

RAM on certified list for the mobo?
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

It certainly sounds like a motherboard or CPU issue.

Asus recommends installing your DIMMs in the yellow slots. If you can get into the BIOS with just one DIMM installed, verify that your memory timings aren't set insanely fast or quick. A temporary work-around might be to increase voltage from the 1.35 or 1.5 V default by 0.1 V.

It's a motherboard issue. I had a similar experience with a Biostar mITX board where it'd only boot with any stick in the A1 slot. RMA'd it and the new one works fine.
