TR BBQ ~XI~ Official Thread (7/19/14)

Wed Feb 05, 2014 8:18 am

Official date is July 19th!

My semi-live gallery: http://bbq.dr_fish.speedymail.org/2014/

IMPORTANT: We cannot park across the street at Kamp Kiwanis this year. Do not park across the street. I'll post information about alternative parking soon. Read this post (edit: and this post) for information about parking. Please help me out and follow the instructions closely. Thanks!

Apologies for being slightly later starting this thread than normal, but better late than never and all that... For #11 I don't feel quite the same pressure to outdo ourselves that I did for the 10th anniversary but I'm sure that will change as the date gets closer. ;) The date is what I want to focus on right now, we have a few that I already know won't work, specifically August 2nd, 9th and 16th. I'm thinking maybe July 12th, 19th or 26th will be our best bets, a little earlier than normal but nothing wrong with that. That's all the initial post needs I think, if you want more details please consult last year's thread as this post will slowly evolve to look much the same.

...and just in case you forgot how things went last year...

Neither July date appears to pose an issue for me right now, but it is still early.

It would be a worthy road trip if the 'stang were ready in time. Do you think you/the midwest will thaw out by July? :D

Yup I would definitely say so!
I predict a nice balmy 80F with mostly sunny skies and a nice gentle breeze off the lake to keep it fresh. :D

Sounds about right. Could be a few iceberg remnants still floating around though.

Here's an idea, we could send out someone with a boat to snatch one. No need to worry about ice for our drinks or coolers any more! :D

Not in the US this summer; although the dates you suggest would have let me attend BBQ X and would probably let me attend BBQ XII! Have a great time!

It would be so awesome to somehow protect and insulate one until the BBQ but I doubt I could do anything remotely practical to keep one very far into May at the most... My car could never make it down the driveway of the cottage right now but I really want to go get some pictures... This is my aunt's webcam looking over the channel/Lake Mac if anyone is curious...

There's about a 50/50 chance 19th is out for me. There's another event I attend every July, not sure yet if it will be on the 12th or 19th this year.

Don't make me choose!!! Actually it looks like July 12th might work as well.

Bring him along and give him a b-day on the Lake Michigan shore. If the schedule works for me there will be this large grey-haired guy in a dorky boonie hat and tye-dye using propane to launch russets far into the lake.

Ooh, that reminds me. If I'm going to finally bring homebrew, I need to get started now.

Been to the last 2 and they are completely family-friendly. Just seems to happen when you corral that many geeks into a space.

Historically yes, school starting and all that. Also some family is already asking for that time so the dates I mentioned are ones where I should be able to get two contiguous weeks with the BBQ on the Saturday in the middle. :)

I'll set the firm date once I know the official cottage schedule for the summer (first week of March). So far I've requested any two weeks grouped before and after each date posted, I'm sure it will be one of them but I don't know which yet. If one is better than the others I can push for it specifically so keep those opinions coming. :)

Any of your July dates work for me. Not that my presence is all that important. ;)

LOL! Also I will not commit to anything else in July until a date is settled on. So go with what works.
