Re: Clevo W110ER / Sager NP6110 Tempting 11.6" Laptop

Well, balls! It was so close to the perfect upgrade, my LP116WH4-SLN2 arrived today, the one and only IPS panel that will work with the W110ER even though you have to hold it in place with double sticky tape. It was not meant to be though, I thought it was working perfectly but then I noticed the super weird "dead pixels" (I guess) and so now I'm back to my old screen while I decide what to do next (return or more likely an exchange)... It's just that my old screen looks so much worse now... :( Balls, balls, balls! :x

I saw that before and it turned out to be a screen protector. Here is the link: forum.notebookreview.com/sony/708717-sony-vaio-s13-ips-display-mod-9.html#post9167435 (Can't post urls)

Having just repaired my plasma TV, that pattern screams of a ribbon cable not properly seated. Truly dead pixels would not be in such a regular pattern.
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

Thanks, I just read that in the Notebook review thread I posted the same pictures in. Oh well, would rather have a little embarrassment than an RMA. I'm happy now, going to switch back ASAP. :D

Alright, done! :D I forgot a couple pictures but I still think most of the important stuff is covered. I love the last picture because I know that on my old screen you couldn't see anything in it.

It's awesome. The only flaw is the 2 or 3 pixels of unevenness from right to left, but I'm going to leave that alone because I'm too afraid to make an adjustment to my double stick tape (I should have used Velcro, oh well). It's not bad though, and my 27" Korean monitor has a similar problem so my OCD can just deal with it that way.

I'm super happy. So I guess the thing to try for others that have gotten the same screen from laptopscreen.com and not had success is to make sure you are using the V3.0 Prema BIOS.

Nice work, though there's one mod you haven't done yet: "remove the ugly stickers" mod ;)

I'm tempted to do this now, my little laptop is now running a 3320M (2C4T/3.3GHz boost/35W), 16GB DDR31600 and the original 256GB Samsung 830; It's a staggeringly potent little lump, about the only thing holding it back is the TN screen.

Edit, where did you source your LP116WH4-SLN2 from? In Europe I'm going to be paying €100 ($150) for the panel before shipping.

I got mine from here.

Get rid of my stickers? :o I'll have to think about that...

It's one of the harder mods, to be fair; I can see why you'd be cautious given that you could brick your laptop by using the wrong size knife.
I think the clean lines are worth the days of work this mod takes to accomplish though:
