Shogun 2 (Build 4768) w/ Rise of Samurai

Sun Mar 23, 2014 12:58 pm

I hate to admit it, but I'm getting old. I used to to be able to beat Total War: Shogun on the hardest settings, using the TAkeda or Uesugi clans for added challenge.

Now that I've gotten around to playing Shogun 2, I can't even fully quell all the damned rebellions in Kyushu *ON EASY*, let alone build up my armies and navies to break out into Shikoku and Honshu proper. I'm ashamed to about I've tried several trainers, including MT-X, S2TW-4768, and several other generic ones. They either don't work at all, or crash after one turn.

Can anybody help an old wannabe Taisho-shogun, or am I doomed to admitting defeat on this one?

*sad panda*

You are now doomed to wander the lands as a Ronin. You have brought shame to your lord...

It's Both. You start as a local lord, in charge of a province or two, and you scheme, plot, assassinate, and try to conquer all of japan. The battles you engage in are realtime, so you can assemble some rather impressive land and naval battles.

Elevation, morale, exhaustion level, and type of unit all factor in. The one thing I haven't figured out how to do in the this version is predefine army formations (like archers take the hilltops, heavy cavalry on the flanks, firearms and archer rotating, spearmen protecting against enemy cavalry). The first game had preset formations, like "flying crane" and stuff. Pretty fun game, and they have others in the Total War series set in other time periods, like Medieval, Rome, Napolean.

Never played Shogun but TW is an excellent series. If it's like Rome and Medieval, the best advice I can give is to focus early on building up economic power and don't be afraid to plunder the hell out of rebel villages to afford to build up your main cities. Medieval had a great loading-scene quote, something like "the three keys to winning wars are gold, gold, and more gold" and it's very true, both ingame and in real conflicts too.

Oh, and a heavy cavalry charge from behind is utterly devastating. Again, can't vouch for this in Shogun but it kicks ass in all the others.
