I haven't kept up enough to know the status of everyones projects, but I can't help but think the other companies were a threat Oculus might not've been well equipped to compete with.
It's still 'wake me up when someone releases something' tech much like all those amazing memory techs people have been talking about in the last three years.

Nothing Oculus has posted implies that the VCs would be repaid anytime soon. When this happens, VCs hammer the company to find a profitable (for the VCs) sell-out. Enter the FB offer, which makes the VCs whole and then some. VCs care squat about the company's prospects after that; if they made money on the VC investment and are out before the company craters, all to the good.
