Great SSD Deals

Wed Jan 08, 2014 9:40 am

I figured I'd title this thread so it's a bit universal. 1) it allows all SSD deals to be consolidated into one thread, and 2) it gives gerbils the opportunity to track SSD pricing.

Newegg has the Kingston V300 on sale. The 120GB version is $70 with promo code EMCYTZT5389 (ends 1/9/2014). That's the best cost/GB on a 120GB SSD I've seen since that drive was on sale from ~2-4am on Black Friday for $60. If you need more space, the 240GB version is $130.
Kingston has been very agressive with pricing on their V300 lately, let's hope they can put the pressure on other manufacturers to drive prices down further. SSD prices have stagnated since OCZ gave up.
Main: i5-3570K, ASRock Z77 Pro4-M, MSI RX480 8G, 500GB Crucial BX100, 2 TB Samsung EcoGreen F4, 16GB 1600MHz G.Skill @1.25V, EVGA 550-G2, Silverstone PS07B
HTPC: A8-5600K, MSI FM2-A75IA-E53, 4TB Seagate SSHD, 8GB 1866MHz G.Skill, Crosley D-25 Case Mod

Update: Newegg has raised the price on the 120GB model already to $113. However, Amazon has the same model for $69.99 and Prime shipping. Jackpot!

http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Digital- ... 00A1ZTZOG/

edit: Newegg with some really strange behavior: They dropped the price to $89.99 now on the 120GB model and it's still sold out. Amazon deal still going strong.

Newegg has the Kingston V300 240GB marked down to $130 again. For the next 72 hours, you can knock an extra 10% off using promo code NAFSTORAGEJAN15R (that promo code applies to all storage products BTW) bringing your total to $117 ($0.49/GB!)

Removed link to Kingston V300 because they pulled a bait-and-switch with substandard NAND

This one is really good if you count the MIR - $100 for a 240GB Seagate SSD 600. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... CatId=5300

Newegg has the 240GB Mushkin Enhanced Chronos for $105. No promo codes required, expires midnight tonight.

Review here. Sounds like it's async NAND so it will suffer under incompressible sequential reads. Still much snappier than a mechanical hdd though.

Howbout this one:
http://slickdeals.net/permadeal/117060/newegg---480gb-crucial-m500-2.5-internal-ssd

480gb for under $200, around 41 cents a gig.

Solid product, I have the 960gb model and it runs like a champ, instant on PC basically under Win8.

Impressive! Already expired, alas. Prices are dropping; people complain they aren't, but while the 40%-per-year reduction may no longer hold (at least until another process advance) they really do inch lower. The "special deals" of a few months ago are the ordinary pricing of today.

I'm going to be doing an HDectomy of a family member's computer this summer, and it's looking increasingly like I'm going to be able to do it with an SSD of the same size or larger at a sane price.

It's really too bad this thread is almost completely dominated by the Kingston V300 but the 240GB version is on sale for $90 after MIR until 5/5/2014.

240GB for $90 is an extremely nice deal. And I thought my Evo for $130 was a good deal.

Finally, something besides a bargain basement 240GB SSD for under $100! The 240GB PNY XLR8 is $100 after MIR until 5/15. It's a step above the PNY Optima listed earlier. The XLR8 has synchronous NAND at least.

Here's another Tigerdirect Seagate 600 SSD deal. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... CatId=5300

480GB for $220 - $20 MIR = $200. Pretty hot for a larger capacity MLC SSD that's a good performer too. I have a feeling the current crop of SSDs are being cleared out a bit to make room for the next process node NAND that is coming on-line the second half of this year.

Great deal...so great I had to get one. I also told just about everyone I know that needs an SSD (which is pretty much everyone) about it.

The SSD market is starting to get very interesting indeed.

Newegg has the SanDisk Extreme II series on sale right now, $80/150 for 120/240GB. The 120GB drive is easily the best value in a category where performance usually sucks.

Not to be outdone, Kingston has taken a page from GPU makers and bundled Watch Dogs with its 240GB HyperX 3K for $135.

I'm really starting to think that 240/256GB is the new "norm" (I'm looking to upgrade from my 120GB in my main rig) but I suppose 120GB SSDs still have their place in light-duty machines. At any rate...Kingston V300 120GB for $55 today on shell shocker. No MIR, no promo code.

Nice deal. Just ordered one.

I still tend to use a pair of HDDs (in RAID-1) as the data partition (/home in Linux) on desktop builds, so 120GB is plenty.

If you missed TR's link to the Newegg sale this past weekend on the Intel 730-series 240GB SSD ($142.99 at checkout with a now-expired code), the same drive has just gone on sale at Amazon for $149.00 with free shipping in retail-box form including the five-year warranty.
