Building a new system...

Tue Apr 01, 2014 2:11 pm

I'm putting together a new general-use system, and you guys are the best at build recommendations so I figured I'd run it by the gerbils before making any commitments. I think everything's pretty solid but let me know if there's room to improve.

CPU: Cyrix 6x86MX-PR166. The Cyrix reputation is legendary so I figure I can't go wrong there.

Board: Georgia-Pacific 2x4. I'm really torn on this one; would I be better off with plywood? They're both on sale at Home Depot right now.

Memory: 2014 Ram 1500. I want a system that can do everything I need, and all the commercials and award shows say there's nothing that this Ram can't do.

GPU: 25 lb. Organic Peas. I haven't decided yet if I want to do two 1080p displays or one 2160p display, but this will give me enough peas for either configuration.

Hard Drive: Taylormade R1. The pros can get some pretty long drives with this, plus it's on sale. If I buy used will it affect my performance?

Case: Zero Halliburton Attache. So stylish, if only it weren't so expensive. Still, I want a good case and if drug dealers and the nuclear football use this it must really be worth it.

PSU: Duracell 9-volt. Coppertops have a good reputation for reliability.

Have you thought about keyboard + mouse?

I hear this mouse is pretty fancy.

As for keyboards, you can get an electronic one for cheap, but you should consider a mechanical one as well. Most gerbils find that they have better feedback.

EDIT: Almost forgot! Do you need an optical drive? How about windows?
On second thought, let's not go to TechReport. It's infested by crypto bull****.

As punishment, I believe that you should have to build an actual working PC in that case.
