I'm noticing an up tick on spam threads. Is it just me or has frequency of spam increased? Tried of seeing the crap, and feel sorry for the mods dealing with it.
It would take you 2,363 continuous hours or 98 days,11 hours, and 35 minutes of gameplay to complete your Steam library.
In this time you could travel to Venus one time.

I saw a couple yesterday on my lunch break but couldn't find the damned button! And no, I was not drunk!

Anyway, just a word from me to the admins/mods for doing such a great job. You guys rock! :)

Looks like you have to be logged in to report thread/post didn't show up until I was BIF.

Usually an "action" takes 3-4 clicks. Your dozen is nothing. :P

What is it about the TR forum in particular that spam is so prevalent? I recognize that the mods are diligently cleaning up spam when they can, but I rarely see this at other forums, larger or smaller. The spam never seems to make it in in the first place (or at least MUCH less frequently).

Ryu put in some heroic work knocking back yesterday's wave of Chinese spam. I had house guests so got to it after Ryu had done 99% of the work.

It takes several clicks to report and move on to the next thread, so I'm feeling really worn out.

Mods correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe they can remove all the posts from a given spammer with a single operation. So for those of us reporting, it's not actually necessary to report every single one - when you report that spam post from somebody with 5 total posts, you don't actually have to go back and report the other 4. Of course somebody else undoubtedly will anyway, and you have to pay attention to username!e to even notice....

I'm not going to wade into the "how do we eliminate/reduce spam" conversation again (my suggestions are already several pages up-thread) but I'll just note a Cole of niceties I wish the current system had
1. I wish the "email me" option defaulted to no rather than yes (I NEVER want to get email about this) or at least remembered my last choice (or had a preference in my profile to set the default if this is one of those things that splits 50-50).
2. I wish the report-spam button got disabled in some visualy obvious way when a post has already been reported.

Amen! to both of those requests.

The forum moderators can see the SPAM reports in the forums they moderate. Otherwise, I always try to report the post when I move it to the junk heap so that the administrators can spot it for banning the account.

This is the so-called "Hammer of Banning", or HoB +4, in mod circles. Only Global Moderators and Admins have this. Regular mods still have to move the spam to the junkyard one by one and then report to the higher ups for proper banning.

Would it be feasible to set it up so that a post can be reported more than once, and when two or three people report the same post it gets junked automatically and the spammer gets flagged? There might be certain issues with abuse, but TR isn't a vile place like so many other bits of the internet, so I think it could work.

Whoa there, not so sure this is a great idea. Some of these latest spammers are making multiple accounts; easy enough for somebody with a vile heart and several email accounts.

I see you don't read forum article postings or get downvoted for the smallest thing! Sometimes "vile" is putting it nicely! I can only imagine how rough the R&P forum gets!

Just use the default choice. I don't read the comments a lot. So unless you find it fun, I doubt those comments in the reports get read a lot.

It was nice when there were only 5-10 per day. When there's 100 or so that come all at once there is no chuckle.

I do my best to report everything in the 3-5am stretch before I head to bed, seems like the spammers and I are the only ones awake at that time.

Not sure if my observation warrants investigation but in one particular forum area (Technology > Mobile Tech) there's this poster who seems to ask the most mundane questions spanning multiple threads. Dunno if this guy's just a complete noob or he's up to something, but he posted THIRTEEN different threads one right after another asking stupid questions all on DEC. 31. 2013. Is that suspicious or what! The reason I'm saying this is I suspect some spammers first post something legit, pretending to be someone new needing advice to gain the trust of the community then follow it up a few posts later with spam. Some of them who post spam appear to have posted more than once already, and if their prior posts were spam then they would've been banned right away, but apparently their prior posts weren't spam yet because they were still able to follow it up with newer posts. Or it could also be possible that all those posts by that suspicious guy under Mobile Tech are just a part of their efforts to hack TR, right?

Yeah, that guy was spam. He did those sorts of posts in all the forums (and actually got a number of people trying to give helpful replies), but it was all bogus. I'm not quite sure what he/it was trying to accomplish, other than maybe some sort of elaborate troll intended to waste people's time.

I'm honestly starting to distrust new forum posters. I usually first check when they joined the forum and how many posts they've done, but obviously the second condition can be controlled with some effort, like that JawesomeArt guy I was referring to under Mobile Tech. Bogus posters.
