Still playing?
I played it for a good while in the 1.0 version. I enjoyed it, despite the frustrations.
Now, with "A Realm Reborn" (which is the 2.0 update), I can't get into it. It's basically Final Fantasy-themed World of Warcraft with a dash of TERA Online. Still targeting-based, still grindy, doesn't have nearly as much cross-class play as the original game did (which was what drew me to it). All the fun crafting minigames are gone. (´ー`)ノㇱ

As you had to wait a couple of hours to find a party, as you cant solo after lvl15, and after 2hours waiting, you want a good hour of playing in a group to START to get some decent XP
I played FF11 for 7.5 years. Best years of my life. FF11 still remains near the top of my "favorite games of all time" list. Despite everything you said, which is all more or less true. It's true that if you didn't have a solid group to play with, the game was an exercise in frustration. Luckily, I started out with my brother and his friends, then learned Japanese and played with that community (which was just way, way better than the NA or EU communities), and eventually graduated to running my own linkshell.

Not really. It's somewhat less grindy, but that's sort of like saying a BMW 7 series is "somewhat less expensive" than a Lamborghini. It's still pretty grindy, and the gameplay itself is fairly repetitive and, to me, as someone who has played thousands of hours of targeting MMOs (FFXI, WoW, EQ2, Aion, Lineage 2, City of Heroes, Champions Online, Warhammer Online, and more), it's just not that interesting.
Play Final Fantasy for the story and for the experience (visuals, community) rather than for the gameplay. If you
really want to enjoy the game, learn Japanese and play on the Japanese servers! (*'▽')
