So I started noticing a weird smell coming from my computer and opened it to find out what might be going on.
What I found was too horrible to comprehend!

I don't smoke nor do I have any cats.
But I have a baby who needs to be changed... alot!
They must have gotten in through the air intake fans.

This is my laptop and my only computer. It is so dirty I had to blur stuff out for the viewing audience....

(If you wanna know what the images blurred out actually are just PM me because none of them are dirty... shhhhhh)

See those two 180mm fans? Filters + Positive Pressure = Clean case. Now the X58/i7 920 and GTX460 are getting a little old and 6GB doesn't seem so amazing as it once was, but with an SSD upgrade this sucker is still rocking.

Image

I'm sure I can find something to do with some new parts, maybe have a friend over to game together?

What is "spring"? You must mean second winter.

My 386DX.

Image

CPU closeup (go AMD!).

Image

Super I/O + Trident 8900D + cobwebs are all that's left in there.

Image

Some detail shots.

Image

After cleanup it's booted. "CMOS battery state low" and video is a bit flaky, but no serious problems. Alas, the 5.25" drive wouldn't read the DOS 5 floppy, and there's no HDD anymore. The HDD semi-worked the last time I checked (been a while), and the computer booted on a second reset, but after some reading it was just dry scratchy noises. Maybe I need to lube the bearings.

Image

I liked this case. Nice full tower, LCD MHz display (16MHz with turbo off), IBM logo (taken from a printer). The PC Speaker was beefed up, including an external volume and on/off control box I made for it. The computer's is power efficient, BTW. Less than 30W in BIOS idle. :)

Probably needs a little more than a spring cleaning, a full replacement with prizes won from this contest would do just fine. Thanks TR!

I'm surprised it doesn't overheat when he starts the game. He's still running C2Q + GTX260
Also, he's running negative pressure which is why it's so dusty...

[*]Hello, I'm here because I found the contest online. I didn't see an place to say hello and introduce myself so hello my name is mcclave.

There are some pretty dirty entries here and if that's what you are going by I don't stand a chance. My son and husband built this computer for me and there is no way I would ever allow it to get as dirty as some of these I have seen. My son told me to check this spot at least once a week and it it needs cleaning then the whole computer does even if it doesn't look like it. I have a small compressor with an air valve that I use to clean it. I use to buy the compressed air but I can fill my bike tires with this too. :)

This is a very generous contest and you would have to be crazy not to want to win it!

Happy Easter Everybody!

I was getting ready to do some spring cleaning on my secondary rig the other day. I opened up the case, and look at what I found!

Image

Yep -- my Acrobots were already cleaning the case. It's a big job, and they could use all the extra compressed air they can get -- that, and a new case to live in that has awesome new hardware ;)
