The most beautiful monitor I have seen and want!!

Sun Apr 27, 2014 5:27 pm

LG's new $1500 34UM95 34” IPS UltraWide QHD Monitor 21:9 3440x1440 HDMI DP TB “The First 34 inch UltraWide QHD is about the best monitor I would ever want. No its not a 4k monitor with 4 times the pixels of a standard 1080p monitor but who wants to need at least 2 780ti's or 2 290/290x cards just to get a acceptable frame rate playing a game pushing 4 times the pixels a 1080p monitor uses. And I think it has a beautiful design. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 2RY1CB7713

This 34" 21:9 format monitor with 3440x1440 resolution is like having 2 monitors SBS but with no bezels. Also it is much more gaming friendly having only 2.4 times the pixels of a 1080p monitor instead of 4 times the pixels with a 4k panel making it much easier to get great frame rates when gaming over a 4k monitor. On top of that the 21:9 format is awesome for gaming giving you much much better peripheral vision gaming compared to a 1080p or 4k 16:9 monitor.

If anyone want to purchase this for me I would greatly appreciate it...I have yet to push the limits of my SLI'ed EVGA GTX 770 4gb Classified ACX cards and would love to review the monitor for everyone:)

That's nearly 6 megapixels. Can your GPU push that at a decent framerate?

Do games support that aspect ratio?

I would like 3 1920x1080 in portrait mode with no bezel, so I will wait for a 3240x1920 monitor.

It's funny that the aspect ratio isn't even 21 to 9. It's 21.5 to 9. Not that I would mind getting a couple additional pixels ...

Getting a decent framerate is just a matter of properly balancing settings for the game in question. vargis' pair of 4GB GTX770's should do fine for the majority of games available on the market- I'm using a single 2GB GTX670 for BF4 quite successfully myself.

As for the aspect ratio, that's largely a legacy issue- most games pull their resolution lists from the OS.

You know, I was kind of thinking the same thing- but I also have other concerns, like input lag for gaming, and color response and uniformity for photography work. I require my primary displays to be good at both, and those are qualities very rarely found together!

Also, G-Sync- I said it. I'm seriously interested in getting this technology in my next display.

For certain types of games, like racing sims, this screen would be pretty cool. For just about everything else, I think I'd prefer the current crop of 30" 2500x1600 as the 16:10 form factor is more useful in a wider variety of applications.

Screen area wise, this 34" LG is going to be only very slightly larger than a 30" 16:10 (like about 2 to 3% larger), due to the ultra-wide aspect ratio. Therefore screen size difference is arguably negligible. While pixel pitch is a bit finer on this 3440x1440 screen, your getting less than 20% more pixels. And you can routinely find solid brand-name 30" IPS for not much more than $1000 (not to mention cheaper Korean versions).

Yeah, 30" 2560x1600 is an old, unsexy form factor. But I still think it will probably be the better all around screen. And the 20% fewer pixels will help a bit with rendering games at native resolutions without crazy graphics horsepower.

Any idea if it's MST or single stream?

If it's MST, going to be a headache for gaming.
