Installing Windows 7 - error

Thu Jun 26, 2014 3:56 am

Hey guys,

Right, having a bit of trouble with the new PC I built today (4930k, Asus P9X79 LE).

I have 2x 3TB drives in a RAID 1. I also have a 256GB Samsung Evo SSD which I want to install Windows on. However, when I get to the Windows installer, create a new disk from the unallocated space and hit "next", I get the following error:

"Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition". I've Googled the error but not found much helpful info.

I've got SATA mode set to RAID and Intel Rapid Storage Technology is selected. Not sure if that makes a difference.

Very stuck here.. I've not run into an issue like this before. Any tips very much appreciated.

Right, I did some more Googling. I pulled out all drives except for the SSD, and now I've installed Windows successfully.

But on the reboot after the Windows install completes, I'm getting "Reboot and select proper boot device"...

I have to actually go into BIOS and select the SSD to boot from it.

Any thoughts?

Did those mechanical drives at any point in their life have an OS installed on them?

Sounds like that.
You won't have this problem if you delete all the partitions on your mechanical drive, but you can also set the boot order for which disk to boot off first in the BIOS.
