Uses for an old (dead) camera lens

Sat Jun 28, 2014 3:43 pm

Not sure if this is he right place for DIY/crafts, but it is camera related.

My Vivitar has succumbed to fungus, and while I do like the lens, it's worth $30 at most in good condition.
Instead of just throwing it away , I wanted to re-use it in some way. Current ideas are making it into a small pot for herbs or flowers, or making it into a small vase. Anyone have suggestions?

I'd just get out my jeweler's screwdrivers and find out how many parts there really are.
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

Well, that was a given!

I like this idea, I'm just not sure about the food safeness of any lining I would use to make it not leak. The vase or planter would probably be about the same.

Current idea is to disassemble, remove all the glass and the aperture, and then reassemble. Line with something so it won't leak (any suggestions) and then boom. Done.

Depends on the condition of your current living conditions. If your like me, your already surrounded by junk and you just need to get rid of the thing. 30 bucks on Ebay/Yard Sale is money you did not have. If on the other hand you have a "Myth Buster's" style warehouse to store all your stuff then by all means put it into a box marked "future robot parts".
