need an MP3 player

Sun Nov 16, 2003 1:01 am

I need to upgrade from my 4 year old diskman. I'm looking for the best here. I'm considering the 20GB iPod but I now see RCA has a 40GB Lyra out and way cheaper than a 40GB iPod. Sony's MD players are looking not too bad this year with built-in FM radio. Any recommendations?

I like the looks of the Philips HDD100, but I haven't read any reviews yet.

I've got a 10GB iPod - probably one of the best purchases I ever made!

Go for it - you'll be safe in the knowledge that you've got the best money can buy.

For what it's worth, Cnet seems to likes those more than the iPod for price/perf. It has a much longer batterlife than the iPod too.

That Neuros thing looks pretty slick too.

Neuros Size

Sun Nov 16, 2003 6:49 pm

Before you go getting a Neuros check out the dimensions. The thing is huge! Especially with the hard drive pack. That system is just ludicrous anyway.

I like my Archos Jukebox Recorder 20 errr... 30 err.... 40. Heck, the hard drive size doesn't matter because I can upgrade it whenever I want. It plus the Rockbox software is awesome! Sure, the screen is itty bitty. But I don't use it for asthetics. Archos + Rockbox you can't beat for the price. I threw some 2000mAh AA batteries in and it lasts forever. I guess the newer Archos' come with Li-ion though.

Plus, the Archos doesn't require any fancy software to copy music. It's used just like any other hard drive. No Music Match, WMP, or iTunes required.
