who's Jeffery Kampman?

Mon Jun 02, 2014 12:16 pm

Is he a new writer dude on the site? If so, I'm happy to see that we're growing.

My guess is this has something to do with it.

Jeffrey's our new part-time news guy. Captain Ned is correct: Jeffrey was the applicant we chose from among those who replied to that job posting.

Hi everybody! As Cyril noted, I'm the newest part-time news writer for TR. I've been reading the site for years, and it's a great honor to be contributing to the front page. It goes without saying that I'm a PC hardware geek, but I follow goings-on in Apple and mobile news as well. When I'm not writing, I can be found playing Magic: The Gathering, obsessing about coffee, or shooting medium-format film cameras. Once again, it's a great honor to be here, and I look forward to your comments on future articles. 8)

Did you pick that handle on purpose or did Scott assign it to you?

If this is true then you must be a member of the Aeropress cult. If not then you are missing out on what is quite possibly the best coffee gadget out there. And only true Aeropress aficionados use the Inverted method.

If you've been reading for a while, then I don't need an introduction. You already know I'm the coolest.
As a former employee (founder) i'd suggest you be careful. Scott takes sexual harassment very seriously. Passes at him might even cost you your job. it may have happened before.

Thanks, and nope. I prefer to lurk most of the time, but since people want to know who the weird name on the front page is...

I love my Aeropress, and I do prefer to use the inverted method. I also roast my own coffee for maximum freshness and flavor. It's a sickness, but it tastes so good.

Cool. Hopefully "mobile news" part doesn't apply exclusively to iOS and you also read sites like AndroidCentral and WPCentral as often as the iOS-related ones

Considering what the editors were looking for, I believe you purport directly to the CEO.

Never thought to try the inverted method myself. Can't really see what it adds as most of the water doesn't seep through until you start plunging, but definitely worth a shot.

I also roast coffee. Been using one of those Korean Cafe Gene hybrid convection/conduction roasters for the better part of the last decade. It is a bit of a sickness. Do you have any recommendations for green coffee sources? I normally try and order from Sweet Marias..

I think that fans of the inverted method mostly do it to gain greater control over immersion and extraction, since a constant volume of water and grounds remain in contact for the entire steep time, as they would in a French press. The non-inverted method works fine too, but the coffee immediately starts dripping once water is added, so it's harder to maintain control of the brew. Does it matter? Probably not, but when we're obsessing about everything else, a few grams of water are important.

I'm envious of your roaster—I just use a wide, flat-bottomed dog dish and a heat gun. :D I've looked at a couple of other green coffee suppliers, but Sweet Maria's has been my go-to so far. Nobody else provides quite as much detail and transparency about the coffees they sell.

We all have our favorites, obviously, but I'm committed to impartiality when it comes to reporting. I try to stay up on developments in Android and Windows Phone as much as I can.
