Which Shuttle ??

Tue Jan 27, 2004 4:25 pm

I'm in total confusion.....Need Help from the experts !! :o

I'm on the verge of my 1st SFF and decided it will be a shuttle. Problem is which one. Don't really do much gaming and it will be for general use and media centre to sit next to the TV. Don't really do O/C....

SN85G4
Pros: Future proof (or is it), peformance, AMD
Cons: Expensive, Noise, Need graphics

Or

ST61G4
Pros: Quiet, On board Graphics
Cons: not so future proof and performace

Anyone out there got any tips ?

Oh, has anyone out there tried running Solaris x86 on these systems ??

Thanks in advance .....

If it is just gonna sit by your TV, you don't need a fancy video card. All you need for the ST61G4 is a ATI TV wonder Card with remote for a TV tuner and S Video in and a nice handy remote to control it. Of course you still need the other things such as CPU, RAM, Hard Drive and/or DVD Writer.

For a CPU, I'd go with the 2.6C GHz and Hyperthreading. For RAM I'd recommend at least 512MB of Corsair's PC3200 RAM. Hard Drive I'd go for 120GB Maxtor SATA Drive. DVD Writers, I'd go with Lite-On, Sony, Plextor and a few other good brands.

This is the intended spec:

SN61G4
2 x 256 Kingston HyperX DDR400 PC3200
