Discussion of Forum Rules and Guidelines

Thu Oct 16, 2003 8:39 am

After months of heated debate by the moderators, we've ironed out a small set of rules and guidelines for posting here in the forums. In case you didn't see the big announcement thread at the top of the Back Porch, here is the link:

viewtopic.php?t=11214

This thread is the place to discuss, comment, complain, etc. about the posted rules and guidelines. If you have specific complaints about a specific action of a moderator, please either PM that moderator or one of the admins. If your PM goes unanswered for more then a couple days, then please send one to me.

Thanks,

Kevin

The posted rules are just common sense.

Or at least I would like to think they are... every now and then we do get a straggler wandering in trying to sell his 100 copies of Medal of Honor /w serials.

Is "damn" a swear word in this forum?
are we going to be following national TV rules?
I know the ones that are filtered, but I'm not sure about the unfiltered words

Basically TV rules works well enough. The comments don't have filters like the forums, so they will got moderated as needed. For the forums, the filters will pick up what needs to be filtered. Of course, don't take that as an invitation to "get around" the filters.

If in doubt, find another word to use. The English language is full of excellent words to use when expressing yourself.

Makes perfect sense. All those who try to 'push the limits' will be seeing this, I assume:

Lol. That was a good one. They picked the wrong forums to find someone dumb enough to "buy" a serial number from them. Anyone could get them somewhere else if they wanted.

I think he's trying to toss something inflammatory up and hope he gets a thread locked.

I think he's referring to the lack of Anti-M$ around. There isn't any other explination that makes any kind of sense. ;)

How is a link to something profane (i.e. swearing) considered improper?
It wasn't pornographic, but I was locked for it.
viewtopic.php?t=29795
Why?
Edit: I do know that profanity is not allowed IN POSTS,
but what about a link to profanity that is labelled appropriately?

I'm not trying to cause trouble, I just don't understand how I broke any rules.

Most likely you should discuss with the mods and admins in question via PM. But this probably falls into the "family site" clause.

How about we just ban you because you have Amish in your alias and used "poophead" as a possible name to call someone? In fact, banning you would take too much energy. Just save us the time and leave.

Well, we're definitely not prohibiting sarcasm, but we're not so keen on the serious name calling, especially if it gets vicious. The mods will sometimes have to make a judgement call on personal attacks, but there will generally be a warning before action is taken.

And poopyheads who try to dance around the finer points of the rules testing the limits will have to deal with me. ;)

Kevin, this is just a side issue, but I disagree with your sig. Jeremiah was a man almost no one listened to, but that doesn't mean he should have done anything else besides what he was doing. It's not who's listening, it's whose message it is ;)

As far as the forum rules go, they are all common sense, but common sense I don't believe is all too common...
