anyone know about gps enabled pdas

Mon Feb 23, 2004 2:43 am

Has anyone here ever used a garmin ique3600? I want to get a new gps, and read about the 3600 a while ago and it sounded pretty good except for the battery life. Now they have a portable battery charger that runs on AAs. Anyway, does anyone have any advice on pdas that are gps enabled because they look really nice with the big color screen as well as all of the pda features. Otherwise I was going to get the garmin gps5.

There are several CF card gps receivers and as far as I've seen only 2 SanDisc gps receivers. Either on will give your regular pda gps capability. I'm waiting for the price of the SD card to come down a bit and then I'll have an iPaq GPS.

These are the only ones I know about, but there probably are more.

That ique 3600 sounds like a cool toy.

# Voice recorder for making memos, quick notes, and messages on the fly
# Rechargeable internal Lithium-ion battery (charges in cradle or while connected to adapter)
# Built-in 32 MB of memory for downloading map data and other Palm OS-compatible software
# New ARM processor enhances battery life, screen redraw, graphics, and audio
# SD expansion slot for flexible memory storage and additional software
# Unit size: 2.8"W x 5"H x .8"D (72 x 128 x 20.3 mm)
# Display: 2.16" x 3.24" (54 x 81 mm), 320 x 480 pixel, high-resolution, color display
# Applications: Astraware Game Pack*, powerOne Personal Calculator, Documents to Go by DataViz*, DataViz Mail*, Palm Reader, StarCaddy*, SplashWallet*, Vindigo*, and WorldMate*

but 600 bucks is steep.

the general consensus is that the ique isn't a great PDA. battery life is definitely not enough for navigation. my reccomendation is that you find a PDA with extreme battery life and an external GPS unit with it's own powersource.
the Z71 has a battery life of almost 8 hours while playing MP3s and probably much more just running the GPS map app...
