I plan on using the same videocard I'm using now in the SN45G that'll be purchasing very shortly. However, after I receive it the next upgrade will be the videocard.

What I want to know is how are these systems on space? Will I be able to jam a 9800 Pro in the agp slot along with pci card? Or will I have to sacrifice the pci slot? Also I heard the space is really tight between the agp and case.

If anyone has any suggestions on what videocard would work well without having sacrifice the pci slot, I'd appreciate the advice. And for reference, the card will be a Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb.

You won't have any problems with a 9800 pro. I got one in my SN45G and it has a good bit of space leftover.

Yep 9800PRO should be fine, if you wanted to the 9600XT (or o/c'ed 9600PRO) though certainly a step down (in price & perf) is even smaller, less power hungry, quieter and cooler too! The regular 9800 (9700PRO) is no slouch either and may help to ease heat etc. You're only really likely to get problems if you wanted a GF-FX card as they are larger, hungrier, hotter and bulkier. There won't be acres of room in there but nothing that will stop you from installing and using the card.

My 9800 Pro sings a happy tune inmy SN45G, and has plenty of room for friends. plus i have a Linksys wireless card in the PCI, with that big metal thing on it...no space problems at all.

I agree with the above statements. 9700Pro or 9800Pro will fit in this box without issue. Now, sticking a Nvidia 5950Ultra in this thing? Not! It's too bad too. When will Nvidia learn they are alienating a hardcore SFF group by putting out cards that require nothing short of 3lbs of heatsink and an extra pci slot just to keep it cool? ah, oh well...

It's the Voodoo engineers at nVidia ... their motto is 'if you can't get enough power then hideously o/c it and to hell with size and heat!' LOL :lol:

Yeah, just wait for them to add a second GPU ala Voodoo II and call it something like "double" the performance. Only problem is that it needs a pair of waterblocks to cool

It will be interesting to see if their next card goes with a huge HS again, or if they scale it down a bit.

Actually, why doesn't shuttle just rearrange the order of the AGP and PCI slots? Seems like they're in the cubes backwards as it is...

That would make more sense, as the way it is, the video card is right next to the case wall. I am sure that if they did change them around, the vid card would run cooler, and you would be able to fit the bigger cards. I am sure they will do this soon, just like how it took a while to get the AGP slots in the first place.

With a couple of new players in the SFF arena...Shuttle better start doing something to keep their customers from straying...changing the layout would be a big plus IMOHO :wink:

Maybe once they come out with SATA CD drives, then they can go completely SATA on the boards and get rid of PATA and the big cables. That should help with the current cabling problems in SFF systems.
