ipod or pda ?

Sun Mar 14, 2004 6:46 am

i looking at getting a music device in the coming week. im not sure however i should get a ipod 15gb or a dell 300mhz pda with 256mb ram. both are similarly priced, $430AUD. i know the ipod is a far superior music player however a like the features on new pda's (games, free programs etc). i dont have a huge music library so capacity is not a big deal. the main prob is that i dont know if i would need the features on a pda seeing it would mostly be for games, music/video, some notes and contacts. what do you recommend, any feedback would be great :D

i say screw both of them and get yourself a sony tj-37. It's cheaper than the dell PDA(axim x5?) and has wi fi and a camera. The processor's slower than the X5(200 mhz) but most palm apps dont require alot of power anyways. Most people think the Palm OS is less "powerful" than Windows Mobile but i like the simplicity. Simplicity=Good in the PDA world. Less bugs, less crashes 8)

Heh, I have both. :P

Unless you really need to keep your life organized, you won't use the PDA much. The programs for PDAs don't come free as well, so you'd most likely be paying for the extra games, software, an added post purchase cost. Unless you don't mind the registration screens for most demos.

I like my iPod, and it doubles as a portable HD, and I find listening to music more enjoyable than poking at a PDA.

My 2c. ;)

I have 1895 songs on my iPod. Basically every CD I have purchased over the last 15 years (none of my songs are downloaded). Try that with a PDA. You should see "shuffle" play on this thing... :-)

Then save your money and buy a Palm device. It will do everything you just mentioned and cost a lot less than a PocketPC (will be smaller and run longer on a battery charge too).

it is a pretty new PDA but for US$300 you're getting alot.
