Ok I can't remember if I've read this somewhere or not but eitehr way I need my memory refreshed. Can Athlon XPs be run in SMP? If they can, do they perform just as well as their MP counterparts?

Again, for the LAST time:

The MP does have a purpose in life. The chips undergo additional testing to make sure the parts of the core used in SMP work properly. Thus, AMD certifies these chips for SMP usage and charges a premium for them. To you or me, this isn't so significant, but an OEM damn well better use the MP chips when building duallies.

So cRock any performance differences between the MP and XP while in SMP? And you can stop having "For the Last time" in all your posts in this thread now

Sigh...

When something is certified, it doesn't mean it is faster in any way.

Thanks both of you for your quick and seemingly condescending responses.

Hey ANApex,

Here is the conclusion of the review of the MSI K7D SMP board at [H}ard OCP:

If you read through it, you'll confirm what they those guys wrote above, and bit more info, too.

One other thing I can say...I used to work for HP back in the day (a couple of years ago). I'd run a battery of tests on RISC processors going into duallies and quads designed for massive enterprise servers. Let's just say that there wasn't a whole helluva lot to those tests. Personally, I would have no problems running dual XP's instead of paying the premium for MP's, which is what I plan to do. That is, if by the time I upgrade again, the Clawhammers are not as kickass as we all expect them to be.
