my new SN95G5

Wed Sep 15, 2004 12:05 pm

I brought up my new system yesterday, everything went smooth as usual.

Shuttle SN95G5 XPC
Athlon64 3500+ skt939
1 gig TwinX PC3200LL
Radeon 9800XT 256mb
Hauppauge PVR250
74gig Raptor
250gig WD sata
CD/RW/DVD combo

This thing is FAST 8)

I would highly reccomend this new XPC, it is great. The new redesigned ICE cooler works great, my cpu is about 30C under load while the fans are still cranking out in low RPM.

The SN95G5 seems damn near perfect, except for one thing. It doesn't use the nF3U's GbE+FW, and instead decides to use a seperate, PCI bus constrained GbE chip. why, why, WHY do mobo makers do this :/ (Shuttle isn't the only one). It performs a helluvalot worse, and I can't imagine it's cheaper than using the one that's already in the f'in northbridge. geh :/
Killer SFF otherwise. If it weren't for the ZMax DP (which is looking awfully like vapor so far)...

maybe there's some licensing agreement that mobo makers have to pay extra to nVidia to use the gig-E or something...because using PCI gig-E sucks, absolutely correct. Blah.

Yeah the SN95 is sweet. I saw one yesterday running an A64 FX 55. Very fast.

Is it possible to put in an X800 XT?

With those two hds, and a combo drive?

I'm wondering how well the power supply stacks up to all of those devices.
