Nice lappys cheap

HPShopping.com has an excellent deal on Compaq laptops right now, just thought I'd let everyone know. After the $30 mail-in-rebate (and it would be a good deal even without that), you get

Athlon XP-M 2800+
256x2MB RAM
40GB HD
15.4 WXGA widescreen
8x DVD
3-year warranty
32MB 440 Go Nvidia graphics
WLAN B/G
XP Home

for US$1078.99

Easily the best deal I ran across while browsing laptops online today. The Nvidia chip leaves a lot to be desired, and it's only XP Home, but I was thrilled to find one that "inexpensive" with a 3-year-warranty. Usually they're about that much with only a 1-year.

Cool beans.

what sort of compaq is it, a real one (Armada) or some clone rubbish (Presario) If it's made as well as an M700 then it's probably worth the extra money.

Have a look at Asus's laptops too, they seem good (though I've not actually had a good look at one).

The linky says it's a Presario (the A64 3000+ one).

Yup, asus laptops are great. my dad had 2 at his previous job, and neither of them had any problems (except for one windows glitch). my dad even managed to drop both of them at some stage. he broke a huge chunk of the plastic casing of his second one. but it still went fine.

My dad just got a toshiba at his new job, it broke down after 2 months and took 3 weeks to be repaired. it also only has a nib mouse, not a proper touch pad like both his asus ones (it wouldnt be so bad if the toshiba wasnt 5 yrs newer than his first asus one). needless to say i will never buy toshiba. my school also buys them, which put me off them as well.

Thanks for the link, but I think that was without the $179 warranty upgrade :( Plus it only had 256 RAM.

Definitely checking out Asus's computers, will browse around Staples sometime also to see if they are giving any too-good-to-be-true laptop specials.

I don't know if I'll actually get one, 'cause I don't really need it. But we wants it!!

Thanks for all the help, guys!
