Is Newegg.com going out of business?

Postposted on Tue Dec 21, 2004 4:03 pm

I had a problem with a DVD burner I bought from newegg last month. The Nero software that was supposed to be included was not. I called and spoke with someone at the beginning of December telling me that they would ship my software out right away. Needless to say, more than two weeks later I have yet to see that software.

I tried calling the 800 number and the local number for customer support and I keep getting either endless ringing or a disconnected number messsage. Both not good signs from a leading online retailer.

I decided to try the email route. Yesterday I fired off a displeased email to service@newegg.com and have yet to hear anything back. Which is entirely unlike the way Newegg has operated in the past. I have gotten responses from them the same day before.

Does this smell fishy to anyone else? Has anyone else been experiencing anything like this from newegg lately? I know that service dept's are usually the first things cut when business' start folding and I would hate to see the Egg go under, for more reasons than my copy of Nero.

I don't mean to be critical it is probably because they are very busy. It is only a few days before Christmas and some people buy things the last minute. (ok alot of people)

They do so much of their business online and via email, that the phones don't get priority.

Still, I'd expect 48 hour email response time this time of year with a place like the Egg.
