I've got a friend who needs a copy of Outlook express on a non-networked Win95 machine. So I figured I'd DL a copy of it, burn it, and give it to him. Except that MS's site won't let me actually DL the installer, as it detects I'm running IE6 after the first 500kB "gateway" thing downloads. If I could somehow get a full copy, or convince it to allow me to DL the full version, it'd help. Any thoughts?

I don't know how to download it, but its also on win2k and office2k cds, if you happen to have one lying around.

The office2k cd is easiest as its just a subdirectory, if I recall correctly. The win2k you gotta go mucking around in the cabs.

From memory you download the stub, run it, go to advanced, and there's an option for "don't install just download", or something like that.

Yes, I understand that whole "Run the 500k installer" thing, and also the "when it asks you what type of install you want, just pick 'DL only'". Unfortunately, as I'm running IE6 on my home machine, the stupid 500k installer thing runs, detects a newer version of IE, and quits, without ever asking me anything.

Don't you remember from the MS trial that there's NO WAY to separate IE from Windows? Thus no way to downgrade?

Seriously though... downgrading IE will probably be a nasty nasty task. Good luck.

OK I know there's a corporate MS download site somewhere that'll let you D/L the full programs, I'll post the link once I remember it.

Ok I think I found a link for the full D/L of IE 5.5 here it is.

Yeah, I don't think they even have 5.0 on their site anymore, just 5.5 and 6. 5.5 is nice though, that's what i'm still using on win2k.
