Not sure if this should go here or rather in the "Processors, Chipsets, Mobos" forum ...

Anyway, I read somewhere that there might be a successor to the SV-24 with Tualatin support - does anybody know when that might come out?

The answer might be buried somewhere in the comments section on the frontpage (there was that SV-24 article a while ago), but I'm just too lazy to go look for it

From what I remember from our chat with Shuttle at Comdex, the SV25 is coming, and it will support Tualatin. There's also a P4-based SV box in the works.

Yeah, but what about Socket A? MAN I wish they came out with an SV-77! (Or whatever they wanted to name it, I don't care!)

If you goto ViaHardware.com in the upper right corner there is a shuttle ad with an Athlon XP and a P4 logo that fades to the silouhette (sp?) of an SV24 and then it just says 'They're coming'. /me is super excited.

Is the next generation of SV24 going to have an AGP slot? Still kind of useless as a gaming box if it doesn't have an AGP slot.

Have you guys seen the Pandora Box from Soldam? http://www.soldam.com. I think that minibox supports Tualatin processors. Very nice box, looks much nicer than the Shuttle SV24, but that's just me.

The Soldams are nice but in my mind a bit too expensive to compete with the SV24.

Hey, shortbread just linked up to a preview of some new shuttle boxen, with support for Athlons and P4s. Check it out here.

Some tidbits:
Sis DDR
6 channel audio
2 (!) PCI slots
LAN, Firewire, and up to 165 Mhz FSB.

Also, there are links to the SV-25 on Shuttle's homepage. Well, as of yesterday, it was ONE link, but that's better than nothing...

The SS40 looks pretty good, although I would have liked to see 1 AGP and 1 PCI instead of 2 PCIs. Can't have everything I guess. My main worry with an athlon system of the size would be cooling and noise. We'll see how it works out though and it'll be nice to see if the SV24 prices drop now with the intro of the SV25, SS40, and SS50. Since for a C3 machine you really don't need Tualatin support. It's also nice to see they moved away from the Savage 4 graphics core for the SS series (Although it is to the SiS 315) and as always the DDR support is nice. I'm also curious as to how "similar" in cost the SS series will be to the SVs.

As an extra I just checked Newegg and they have the SV25 available for sale at $250, with the SV24 at $229.

How much additional engineering would it take to put an AGP slot in there to replace one of the PCIs. It seems like a no brainer to put an AGP slot in this thing.

Xenolith:
A fair amount, actually. AGP (IIRC) requires twice as many traces as PCI. Further, they have to be routed to the northbridge; the PCI go to the southbridge. And, the BIOS has to recognize the card & immediately disable the on-board AGP video, since only 1 device can exist on the AGP bus. That's why its an Accelerated Graphics PORT, as in a connection dedicated to 1 device, and not Accelerated Graphics Bus. Not to say that it couldn't be done, just look at any Intel i815 board. However, it would be a mjor redesign, not a drop-in replacement.

Can't see pics on the Shuttle site, so can't they're using the same enclosure.

That's the SS we've been talking about underdog. It's using close to the same case only about 1cm longer and 2cm wider.
