Hello-

My primary server at home runs OpenBSD 3.0. I know I had read somewhere that you could run the dedicated UT server on OpenBSD.

Has anybody had experience attempting to do this? I am only looking to run the dedicated server, not the actual graphics. I had no problem doing this under Linux.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

IIRC, the procedure for installing/setting up the DS is roughly the same on both OSes. I won't be fully *BSD literate for a while yet, though, so you may want to Google for help if anything goes south.

It was my understanding the BSD had the capability to run most Linux programs in "compatibility" mode. I assume this should apply to the dedicated server as well. Especially since it doesn't do anything hardware wise except shove lots 'o data out you network connection.

People have done this, with 2.8 or 2.9 from memory. Search the OpenBSD misc mailing list archives, it was discussed there about a year back.

there's an OpenBSD port of the UT dedicated server?!? no way! I mean, I'm sure you can run the linux server on OpenBSD using the linux compatability libs if your kernel supports it (GENERIC does, btw). I'm just flabbergasted that Epic or whoever would port that app to BSD, OpenBSD in particular. If indeed they have, my respect for them just jumped up about 3 notches.

WooHoo! Got it working under OpenBSD 3.0 and it runs beautifully!

Feel free to post your recipe, so that others can avoid the pitfalls. How easy/difficult is it on 3.0?
