SB51G-- Dreamin' on the ideal field editing solution

Sun Dec 15, 2002 3:45 pm

Hey all,

Looking at buying SB51G from Fry's(?) and outfitting with P4 3.06 GHz chip, a gig of memory, Sony DVD/CD+RW, 2 WD 120g 7200s, and a Matrox Perhelia card for dual monitors (could the 200W power supply handle all this?). I'ves just stumbled onto Shuttle, am pretty star-struck, and could use some creative input into how to flesh this best out for a field-edit solution. I'd like to be able to afford one of those cintiq 18x tablet/monitors at http://www.aliaswavefront.com/en/news/s ... dex.shtml.. but that probably isn't happening. And what do you think of the viewsonic airpanel thingy here at http://shop3.outpost.com/product/3508214

:o any thots on best bits to integrate around SB51g to turn it into kickin-booty DV field edit solution wud be much appreciated. This'd be my first assembly job and I don't want to overspend, catch on fire, and kick my own booty-- again.

thanks bt

You can always get an external firewire or USB 2.0 cage for one of your hard drives and/or your DVD/CDRW drive. They can be had for $50-60.

Best way most likely would be to forgo the floppy and install 2 HD's and 1 DVDRW. Couple that with a gig of PC2700 and it should be good. Only real downside I can think of is wanting a faster HD solution, and the best option for that would be SCSI, however that would quite a bit to the price, and increase heat exponentially.

Check out my other post in this forum. I have a SCSI drive in my SS51G and it is running well.
