Unfortunately, the only PCI Express cards on the market right now are video cards, and they're all x16 cards...

Supposedly, we will in the near future see PCI Express x1 sound cards, Ethernet cards, USB/Firewire/other-I/O cards, etc. PCI Express x1 is basically going to be the replacement for regular old PCI (whereas PCI Express x16 replaces AGP). The problem with that is the "going to be" part; while there are motherboards out there with PCI Express x1 slots, there are no x1 cards on the market yet.

So right now you can't put anything in that slot. But in the future, hopefully you can put an Audigy in there, or an extra Gigabit NIC, or maybe a RAID controller, or... but not right now, yet.

Any PCI-Express card. The only problem is, I don't think any PCI-E expansion cards exist yet...

Graphics cards require an x16 slot, afaik.

kk thanks alot and also another question im going to be building a pc "the one that was in the post before this sn25p" and i was wondering whats so good about this venice core compared to a normal 3200+?

Venice is made on a 90nm process with 512KB L2 cache. According to Scott, there should be an article on it soon here at TR.

I believe Venice will have SSE3 instructions included, and also some optimizations to the memory controller for increased compatibility with different brands of memory modules. Other than that, the fact that it's a 90mm chip should mean it runs cooler than the existing 130mm parts, and it will have 512k of cache like most of the lower-to-midrange Athlon 64 CPUs.
