some interesting team stats

Sat May 07, 2005 2:41 am

so i was bored, and didn't feel like going to bed, so I did some calculating of statistics for the top 20 producing teams...all stats current as of 2:15am EST 5/7/5:

**forum size = number of registered users in teams' forum

http://plaza.ufl.edu/usacomp2/fah.html

our rankings of the 20 teams (16 in some categories...I couldn't find the forum sizes for 4 of the teams)
ranked #8 in total points
ranked #5 in average points per day
ranked #7 in active cpu's
ranked #14 in users
ranked #14 in forum size (out of 16)
ranked #2 in cpu's/user with 2.16
ranked #4 in ppd/cpu with 57.62
ranked #2 in ppd/user with 124.5
ranked #2 in total points/user with 33.8k
ranked #4 in users/forum size with 16.38% (of 16)
ranked #2 in ppd/forum size with 20 (of 16)

some interesting points:
*if you divide out the total points for all the TR registred forum goers, everyong can be proud of donating an average 5542 points toward the cause 8)
*if you average all of those ranks from above, we are ranked 4.2nd place overall 8)
*if you average those from the 2nd groupings, we rank #2.6 overall 8)
*2cpu users actually have an average of 3.5cpu's per person (and they only have 891 users!) and each user has an average of almost 200 ppd!
* 11/20=55% of the teams have an average of more than 1 cpu/user
* 9/20 = 45% of the teams have an average of more than 50 ppd/user
*who the heck are the dutch power cows?
*CustomPC is ranked #24 in total points, but is ranked #12 in ppd

*we rock!

UPDATE:
2nd page here that shows the team rankings for each of statistics

Nice stats, good stuff.

The new and improved UGN should boost some of those stats... ;)

This should go on the frontpage on the next update so people will not think TR is just a mid-range team (out of the top 10).

Edit: didn't wake up fully and used stupid double negative.

What is this stuff about forum size? What is it, how is it measured, and why does it mean anything?

Sounds like it's a measure of the team's community. The statistic represents what proportion of the team's community contributes to folding. I think. :-?

yeah, that's correct...basically it's seeing the potential that a certain team has, and how much of that potential is realized...for example, we have approximately 17% of our forum active in folding...image in anandtech had that active of a folding team, they'd be off the map
anyways, the way that I got that, is I went to each teams main website, (e.g. http://www.overclockers.com), went to their forum, then looked to see how many members that forum has
the 4 that don't have values is either 1: they are a combination (like alliance francophone) that doesn't have a specific base, or 2/ I couldn't find a number
does that answer your question?

Hey, pal, how about complete statistics for each team you surveyed?

You did the research, why only tell us where TR stands? We shoudl know our enemies...

Yep. I'd use a different term for it, though.

Forum size makes me think of how many posts on their forum pages or something along those lines. Registered posters/users/somethings seems more descriptive.

too lazy to read the numbers for yourself?

what exactly do you mean...like give the rankings of each team in each of the 11 fields?

Yes. I could do it myself, but you've already gone through the trouble...

Also, not to nitpick, but some people may fold for TR without being registeredon the forums. And the absolute number of users can be misleading, i.e. less than 1/10 of the people registered here on TR actually post in the forums (perhaps they do front page stuff, or perhaps they no longer come here).

you're right on that
however, the number of folders is also slightly misleading, b/c that's the number of names that have turned ina WU...i'm sure alot of those are from people who are no longer folding, or misspellings or something like that, so that sorta helps to even that out, but yes, you're right....it's more just a general idea

I've got other plans for the front page space this week, but I will link to this thread for you from the forum post for the update. Is that ok?

your most important stat.

97 Days till TR becomes the offical DoodyHeads of F@H. Wish I could help you guys out but we are having trouble just keeping what we have. Plus one of our major producers will be shutting down for good sometime here very soon.

Seems work conditions have changed with the new pointy haired bosses that have come on board so he/she are going to cut back to their home machines.
