Could this finally be the chipset ati and intel have been working on for a year or so?

from what i know, ati is developing their own chipset independently, like nvidia did. i can't remember exactly where i read about it, but they had pictures and all.

Brookdale-G is packing the new Intel accelerator. Expect it to be a generation or two behind everyone else's parts in features and speed, as usual.

Think i742. i815 onboard decelerator.

Well thats no fun. Phewy. I remember when their i740 first came out and reviewers loved it because of its image quality and speed. Funny how times change.

Yup, ATI is developing it themselves.
They are the A3 for Athlon and A4 for Pentium4.
A3 is expected expected around Q1 and wil have a R100 graphics core. The A4 will have RV200 logic in it.

As I understand it the ATi chipset will be totally conventional. No dual channel or anything fancy. So I fail to see the point. There are already plenty of performance chipsets and budget chipsets for both platforms so does anyone know how ATi plans to differentiate their chipset?

The Brookdale-G is coming out way too late for me. We're gonna have to spec out PCs with seperate video cards for fall. Dammit.

Well, ATI's design is much cheaper to implement than nVidia's. One of the reasons is that it doesn't use hypertransport therefore allowing the use of other 3rd party southbridges. It will also dissipate less heat, will have an integrated clock frequency generator and will not need a complicated PCB.

I thought the A3/A4 was just the graphics chip for the motherboard, but I just might be reading your comments wrong.

Why wouldnt they want to have their own? Intel's graphics suck and they finally realized it and want to at least improve on that part.
