You're buying at the end of the cycle for graphics cards, which has upsides (things are cheaper) and downsides (will be out of date sooner). I'd hate to buy a graphics card right now, with the next gen launching in a month or less. But it will be a while after that before the next midrange card comes out, and you probably can't wait that long. If I was in your position I would almost be tempted to get a ultra cheap vid card and hold off for a while, but I don't play as many games in the summer. Unless you can see yourself playing nothing but 2d and old games until september, just get the x800.endersdouble wrote:The mobo I'm buying (a DFI Lanparty UT NF4) has no AGP, so whatever card I get, it has to be PCIe. (Side note: the review on TR looked pretty good--is this a good motherboard to get? I want good performance, I'm buying a socket 939 Athlon 64, and I need at least 4 SATA ports. I don't care about the low quality audio mentioned in the review, nor only having 2 PCI slots.)
Any help would be appreciated. Can I help out with any more info?
OK. I'd still like to know, since I plan to get a nf4 and oc it sometime...endersdouble wrote:hmm...never heard about the overclocking issue. OTOH, I didn't really plan on OCing--I just have 3 hard drives I need to hook up.
Should be about the same. I prefer MSI for nvidia cards, but sapphire has a good rep on the ATI side. The MSI's cooler looks more substantial.endersdouble wrote:Would Sapphire or MSI be a better brand to buy?
Not if you buy it from Powercooler. They're on the avoid list.endersdouble wrote:Also, would it be worth another $30-$40 to get something like this:
