Looking to buy a CD RW drive, what are the specs to look for, here we have sony, samsung, LG at 40x. which one to go for?

The ones you have mentioned are all good models...I recently purchased a Optorite 48x16x48 for $45 US, and it is dragster par none...really flies. The newer, faster speed models...32 and up, will do you well, whichever one you decide to get. I suggest you look up a review of several you are thinking of. The Optorite that I purchased has a review in Tweaktown.com. Good luck in your endeavor. :lol:

The brands you've mentioned are only OK in my opinion. I'd avoid the Sony drives, there was a post in another topic sayin they burn fast onlly if you can get them to initialize. The LG one I've seen isn't too great in speed.

I personally have a Lite On drive, and I think they're still the best CDRW drives around. They burn fast and are relatively cheap.

Just got the 44X yamaha F1 drive with the disc tatoo feature on it. I have used it quite a bit recently and I have to say it is extremely fast, and the tatoo feature really works great. It saves me the time of making labels for my discs as I can just burn the titles onto the bottom.

Don't be too quick to discount a brand because of one (or two, or three)forum post. There are a lot of loud and obnoxious idoits out there who only want to 'make them pay' if they can't get a product to work. Just an observation.

IMHO, CDRW drives are mostly commodity products. Get whatever is cheap and has the features you want. Liteon often comes up as they are cheap, have buffer underrun, and don't seem to blow up too often.

FYI, Sony drives are just rebranded Lite On's

philips makes quality drives... just a thought. I'd recommend Lite-on though.... they are a big favorite although i haven't used one

I have a Lite-On 52x/24x/52x and it really flies. It's the fastest and most reliable drive I have ever had the pleasure of burning with. I also heard that Lite-On drives are excellent at making exact clones of CD's, so you may want to take that into consideration.

I would also recomend the lite-on drives. I just ordered 10 more for are staff. once you go 52x24x52 you don't go back. and http://www.newegg.com has a great price but I got a better deal from dell when I talk to my rep.
