Illissius wrote:Well, if you're willing to go a bit above your target:
A64 3000+ - $146
ECS RS480-M - $79
2x Corsair 512MB PC3200 Value Select - $82
WD 80GB 8MB SATA - $56
Rosewill case w/ 350W PSU - $20
(wouldn't put much trust in that PSU... but you didn't say you needed one, so just ebay it
---
$383
For most tasks (eg, not rendering or video editing) A64s are faster, they're more future proof (64-bit), and they run cooler as well. (You can overclock them too if you want, which I'm not sure whether I'd attempt with a Prescott.)
Otherwise, replace the appropriate components from above with:
P4 2.66GHz 533FSB - $133
ASRock 775Dual-915GL - $63
---
$354
You can save another $5 by going with a 40GB/2MB PATA drive, but that'd be dumb, I think.

Write down a list then go to your retailer and see what he has from your list. At least you will have a good idea of what options are available (maybe not in your specific region - but overall).
