SBA Example Configurations: $1600/$750/cheap-Updated 7/10/06

We, the moderators of System Builders Anonymous, are creating a "system guide" if you will. What this is, is a general guide of an example of a system that you could configure for a given price. Basically, every once in a while (~6-8 months probably) we will update this thread for the current technology. All prices are taken from Newegg at the date shown in subject (prices disregarding the occasional mail-in rebates).

The two target prices, $1600 and $750, were chosen such that it should be fairly easy to customize a system using some of the suggested parts, yet be flexible enough for major changes. The dollar value is an approximation (as you can see) and only includes the parts that go inside the case. All peripherals (monitor/keyboard/mouse/speakers) are not considered, and software is not included. Please keep that in mind. The reason is that such things are often a matter of personal preference, and the prices on monitors is so fluctuant, that it would be difficult to do such a thing without having to update it every week. 8)

*Disclaimer: I do not suggest going and filling your shopping cart with these exact pieces of equipment, because they are not guaranteed to be compatible. I mean, I did my best to make them so, but you can't hold be liable for it :wink:. If you see a problem in this aspect, or any other aspects, please PM me, or one of the other mods.
**Note: this guide was inspired by the [H] articles that do something similar.

Thanks

Entry-level socket-939 system

For those on a smaller budget, I worked up a decent entry-level system that is easily expandable if your needs grow. Inexpensive integrated graphics are suitable for most applications, including DX9 shader support for Vista. For a good 3D gaming experience, the motherboard has a PCI-Express X16 slot for an add-in graphics card when your needs and your budget allow it. All prices include shipping.

$46 80GB Western Digital WD800JD Caviar SE 7200rpm SATA hard-drive

$ 5½ "Free" BenQ keyboard, black&silver
