The X2 and the P-D aren't exactly comparable processors except in feature set.

Well I read a review that the P-D 830 wasnt actually all that bad in terms of general performance. In fact in some of the benchmarks that involved Photoshop and stuff, the 830 actually won over the X-2... Now of course, X-2 creamed the 830 in gaming, but still Im looking at a PC that can do anything and everything - video production, gaming, surfing, music creation, etc....

I think I can beat it by exactly $100.

$1548 -$619 -$100 = $829

He's saying you did the math wrong and it is actually 829 when you subtract the coupons.

I forgot to add in the dual-core upgrade which is 100 bucks... 829 bucks is only for the regular 6xx series....

AMD does not currently produce a dual-core processor that performs as poorly in gaming as the Pentium-D 820 does. In fact, even the slowest and least expensive socket-939 single-core Athlon64 processor is likely to outperfom the Pentium-D 820 in games.

The basic stripped-down system is priced quite low. Other add-ons that you may want are priced rather dearly from Dell:
+$ 10 physical CD with your operating system software
+$100 for 1GB dual-channel vs. 512MB single-channel DDR2
+$ 20 for an optical vs. mechanical mouse
+$ 20 for 80GB vs. 40GB SATA 7200rpm hard-drive
+$ 90 for DVD+RW vs. CD-ROM
+$ 50 for 3½" floppy and media card reader
+$ 40 for IEEE-1394 Firewire
+$ 20 for crappy speakers

UGH! It's a Dell. In case you've forgotten, this is an enthusiast site, where we build our own computers, not get some hack job like a Dell. How far can you overclock a Dell?
No matter how bad the new homepage sucks or how bungled the new management is...

Yeah.... I was primarily eyeing this deal because of the fact of the 2005FPW monitor, which costs by itself to be 600-700 bucks.... But as for the desktop, I guess we can do much better than that....

Can you guys help me build a good all-in-one rig in this thread?

The 2005FPW has been selling for $390 to $430 for most of July.

For anyone thinking about posting dell system deals, don't hesitate. Although we build our own systems we still have uses for dells, folding comes to mind.
