Can anyone recommend a good HSF solution for this CPU? I plan on upgrading to an ABIT KR7A-RAID mobo and would like to overclock this processor. What cools well and isn't real loud?

Thermalright SK-6. With a little 2* CFM job, it'll run quiet and cool nicely, for an overclock you can slam a Delta 38 CFM on it and suddenly own a top rank cooler.

Forge, I was wondering about the thermalright. Do you know if it can be easily modified to work with 2 gamma 28s? Because they put out a lot of air, and are whisper quiet. I'm pretty sure I could figure out a way to bolt them on there if I got one, but I don't know if the performance would be up to par.

Easily? No. Possible? Very much yes.

I had two old 28's wired onto one of my SK6's at one point. I found they were only about as good as the 27cfm Sunon they were replacing.

I love the SK6. Best heatsink I've owned since the original Alpha PAL35T.

I love my SK6, right now I'm trying a 7000 RPM Dragon Orb, but it looks like the Sk6 is going back on.. my poor ears!!

I too will put a word in for the SK-6. I have the Delta 7K on it but with an inline Rheostat mounted to the open 5.25" bezel on my SX800 case. 7 volts normal and I can go back to 12V if the need arises. It is nice and quite without the annoying whine. It truly is a great heatsink.

I put a vote in for the Swiftech MC462BA with a YSTech. 32C under load (XP 1800+ @ 1.7GHz)

Hmmm, sorry to get in so late, I just noticed this thread. If peace and quiet mean anything to you take a good look at the Alpha 8045. A little pricier than the SK-6, but much less obnoxious. I have an Athlon XP 1800+ with the Alpha and a Sunon 40 cfm 80 mm fan and it makes no more noise than a case fan. The Alpha tests out very close to the Swiftech, but is less expensive. 80mm fans are available up to 80 cfm if you are overclocking. My Sunon is only turning 3000 rpm as compared to the 7000-8000 rpm fans commononly used on 60 mm heatsinks. One caveat, make sure it will fit on your motherboard. Alpha has a compatability page at:

My ThunderK7 deprives me. I'm looking forward to seeing if the Abit WA-2A leaves enough room for two 8045s.
