Graphics Card for $250 and Below???

Thu Sep 15, 2005 3:36 pm

Ok here are my specs right now:

AMD Athlon 64 3800+processor
1.5 GB RAM PC3200 DDR SDRAM
ATI Radeon 9600XT 128MB AGP 8x
nForce 3 250 Ultra Chipset
200GB 7200RPM Serial ATA

I am looking at a new graphics card to get. I would like one for under $250. Which one would you suggest for me to get and do you have a link to the Graphics card so I could look at it and order it???? Thanks.

A 6800NU/GT or x800pro should be your best bet for around 250$. Not sure if there are x800GTs for AGP, but that would be a good option as well if there was an AGP version.

You'd want either the 6800gt or the 800xl.

Here's one for $255 but it's $23 to ship to Hawaii.

I have been looking at that but I really don't want to over $250 the wife is like you really don't need it hahaha.....

How are the 6600GT's.....are they pretty good. Will it a big increase from the graphics card I have right now. I am hooked on BF2 right now and I would like to play on better graphics.

here we go $225 for an ati x800xl agp

follow thisLink first to get $15 off

Link

I don't think shipping to HI should be more than $25.

I would get this a radeon x800 pro, for $239. Looking around newegg, I noticed that the NVidia offerings for AGP have dwindled to almost nothing.

The 6600gts for an agp system don't seem worth the money with your system. You can get much more performance from the other cards said and you have a premium from the pic-e to agp bridge. A 6800NU is a much better card that can be had for under 200$ for an AGP slot, you COULD unlock the pipes and vertex shaders, and it can OC very very nicely.

I also would get the Asus x800 Pro AGP and bios flash it to an x800XT PE. There is risk involved here, though, so it is not as gaurrenteed as an x800XL.

im not all about taking risks...hahha....This is my first gaming PC that I have so a lot of this stuff is new. So it is basically better to go with an ATI than a nVidia. My comp originally came with a nVidia 5700FX something like that. Thanks for all the help if you have anymore good price listing let me know....

I'm not the computer smart as yall can tell.

What is the difference in the graphic card lettering. X800XT/XL/PRO and 6600GT/GTX/Ultra....what do all the special letters mean?

I second the motion to get a x800pro vivo and flash it to a x800xt pe. I just upgraded to whats in my sig on 9/9/05 (last week).

I got the Asus x800pro vivo edition and it flashed to the x800xt pe flawlessly.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814121519
it was $245 last week and its dropped to $239 so the deal is that much better.
16 pipes running at 520mhz for $239 is pretty sweet.
If your worried about the mod its all in software so no touching of the hardware is needed and I could provide you with step by step instuctions as well.
Also you can just unlock the extra 4 pipes and not oc to the xt pe levels(if your worried about heat). So you'd have 16 pipes running at 475 which is still faster than the x800xl.

I would strongly recommend against what most here are saying. Don't get a card with the expectation of it being able to unlock/overclock. Get a card that performs best at stock, and my personal opinion would be to stick with the x800 xl.

Refer to my post in the other thread for a quick reference to the numbering and lettering scheme. It is still somewhat valid, except the X800GT is here.

He brings up a good point. If your not sure your up to the task of flashing the bios on your video card the the x800xl would be the card to get. If flashing the bios is something your confident in doing then the x800pro vivo would be your best choice.

I would like a Graphics card that is great at stock. I would like to learn how to overclock it. What is the best card under $250 at stock without doing any adjustments to it???

AGP and PCI-E what are the differences is there a place I can read up on little stuff like this???

the x800xl is the best card at stock if you can find it at $250 or less which i think you can. As for AGP or PCI-E unless you want to buy a new motherboard I would use whatever slot your current motherboard has.

If you are ready to spend a bunch of money on a serious video card, it is time to upgrade the motherboard as well. Motherboards are much less expensive than good gaming video cards these days.

PCI-Express is the way to go.

You can also run 3Dmark and game demos to really show the card off as well.

Enjoy the new toy! :)

i suppose your score is good your card has 77% of the fill rate of my modded x800pro and your 3dmark05 score is 78% of my card so it looks about right.
